The Original Sites Cemetery

Located on the old George Sites, Sr home site, on the country road leading from the Spring Run Fish Hatchery to and by the Rough Run Dam.  The Dennis Sites house stands on the land that was settled by George Sites, Sr about two miles from the Spring Run Hatchery. Across the road from the house, up against the west hill, at the north end of the pasture field in the edge of the woods is the cemetery.

This old cemetery was partly destroyed by a tenement farmer because the headstones were in the way for his farming.  Reported by a neighbor but they did not know what was done with the stones, but stated that about that time he was building a stone wall near the house and thought the stones may have been used in the structure.  They said many of these stones were marked stones.  Therefore only the graves in the woods remain.  Graves known to have been here are:

George Sites, Sr  1717-1790
Catherine Sites  w/o George
Frederick Sites (oldest son of George and Catherine) 1752-1830
Maria Elizabeth Bergdoll Sites  w/o Frederick     M x E x S -- 27 De 1861 - AG 84 yr 9 mo  19 da
A set of twins are reported to have been buried there that died young.
One grave is marked  A B x S    AG 8
Another marked stone reads      M  18  with the remainder chipped off
These 4 marked and 4 unmarked stones are all that remain.
