Amanda (Ferrebee) Keifer Abernathy, 85, a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home formerly of Mt. Storm, WV, Grant County, died Thursday June 15, 2000 at the nursing home.
Born December 21, 1914 in Mt. Storm, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry and Della Agnes (Kitzmiller) Ferrebee.
Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Keifer, who was killed in the coal mines in 1948.
She then married Henry "Louie" Abernathy of Hartmansville in 1959. After 36 years of marriage, he too passed away.
She also was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters, Luther Thomas and Richard Ferrebee, Nancy Lacy and Mary Evans and a stepchild.
Mrs. Abernathy was a homemaker. She worked at the Davis, Woolen Mills in Keyser and later at the Keyser Garment Company. A lifelong resident of Mt. Storm. She left "The Mountain" for a short time during World War II
As a child she attended the White Hall School at Abrams Creek and also the White Hall Church.
In Later years, she attended the Assembly of God Church in Mount Storm and was a supporter of many different ministries.
She was a seamstress, braided rugs, quilted, embroidered and crocheted.
Surviving are five stepchildren; two nieces, Mary Ramona Wright, Woodbine, Maryland, and E. Darlene Elmore, Eldersburg, Maryland; four nephews, Perry Ronald Evans, Marshall, Virginia, Thomas M. Evans, New Windsor, Maryland, Furman E. Evans, Bunker Hill, WV and Thomas B. Ferrebee, Westfield Center, Ohio.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wallace Lusk officiating.
Interment will be in the Rehobeth Cemetery, Mt. Storm

CUMBERLAND ‹ Archie W. Alt, 87, of 14108 Bedford Road, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born on March 3, 1913, in Landes, W.Va., he was the son of the late David Alt and Virginia (Kimble) Alt.
Mr. Alt was a retired foreman for Potomac Edison, a member of the National Rifle Association, a life member of the Fort Hill Rifle Club, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. (Borror) Alt, Cumberland; a son, C. Maynard Alt and wife Nancy, Bedford, Pa.; two daughters, Judy Bird and husband Cliff, Cumberland, Kay Cline and fiancé Paul Michael, Flintstone; a brother, Raymond C. Alt and wife Opal, Landes, W.Va.; two sisters, Dora Yokum and Nina Sabo, both of Landes; six grandchildren, Christopher Bird and wife Charity, Cumberland, Darrell Alt and wife Joy, McConellsburg, Pa., Darla Semanek and husband Eric, Bedford, Pa., Michelle Saeler and husband Scott, Cumberland, Kimberlee Beal and husband Eric, Cumberland, Shannon Cline, Cumberland; and five great-grandchildren.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. Bertie Amanda (Conrad) Alt, 90, of Petersburg, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital, in Petersburg.
Born Nov. 22, 1909, in Pansy, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Rebecca (Layton) Conrad. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Alt, on July 1, 1997; and infant brother, Columbus Isaac Conrad; and one sister, Janie Conrad.
Mrs. Alt had been a resident in the Grant County Nursing Home since Sept. 10, 1997. She was selected Mother of the year in 1998 at the nursing home. She was a member of Brushy Run Church of God.
Surviving are one son, Julius I. Alt, resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg; one aunt, Laura A. Ratcliff, resident of Grant County Nursing Home; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Edgar Alden Alt, 87, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 21, 1910, in Landes, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary Rebecca (Judy) Alt.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Grace (Spencer) Alt in 1991; two brothers, Fred Alt and Homer Alt; three sisters, Myrtle Yokum, Goldie Simmons, and Nellie Mason; and one granddaughter, Tammy Logsdon.
Mr. Alt was retired from the W.Va. Highway Administration, where he had been a foreman. He was a member of the Mineral Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, John Alt, Grand Junction, Colo., Fred L. Alt, Wardensville, Donald Alt, Slidell, La., and Forest Alt, Forest, Va.; three daughters, Cornelia "Connie" Reichenbach, Fisher, Ind., Betty L. Logsdon, Fort Ashby, and Carol Logsdon, Keyser; two sisters, Lela Staggs, a resident at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, and Dorothy Niner, a resident at Dawn View Manor Nursing Home; 23 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the Mineral Baptist Church, Route 46, Fort Ashby, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Halbersma officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mineral Baptist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Eula M. Alt, 98, of Petersburg, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Dec. 17, 1997.
Born Jan. 28, 1901, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Van and Mary Florence (Hedrick) Bergdoll. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Alt, in October 1926; and two brothers, Evers and Cletus Bergdoll. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Alt was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church, Rough Run, and attended Grove Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the NGU Sunday School Class. Church was very important to her. She was a member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc. Auxiliary. She spent a lot of time with her vegetable garden and canning. Her evenings and winters were spent making quilts, crocheting doilies and making fancy handiwork. Nieces and nephews remember visiting her and eating her sugar cookies and apple pie.
Surviving are one daughter, Imogene Brake and husband Gene, Petersburg; one granddaughter, Donna Kuhn, Petersburg; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Jonathan Kuhn; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Bergdoll, Petersburg, and Esta Bergdoll, Dorcas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Interment will be in the Bergdoll Family Cemetery, Rough Run.

CABINS, W.Va. Jamie D. Alt, 20, of Cabins, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on May 16.
Born June 23, 1977, at Clarksburg, he was the son of Charles F. and Loretta C. Alt of Petersburg. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Frank and Mae Alt.
Jamie graduated from Petersburg High School in 1997. He was a member of Corner United Methodist Church, Cabins. He was employed with Advantage Foods LLC in Petersburg.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Shawna L. Moreland and husband Timothy, Burlington; maternal grandparents, Verda and Austin "Buck" Bennett, Cabins; and half brother, Charles F. "Chip" Alt II, Bridgewater, Va.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Nela A. Alt, 91, of Petersburg, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. She had resided at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, since Nov. 4, 1996.
Born July 8, 1906, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late George and Magdeline (Harman) Yokum. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Ratcliff; an infant grandson, Randall Alt; five sisters, infant Myrtle Yokum, Phoebe Hedrick, Bessie Borror, Sadie Stump and Beulah Thorne; and four brothers, John, Ira, Victor and Steve Yokum.
In the early '40s, Mrs. Alt was a cook for Mount Hope Elementary School, Petersburg. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are one son, Owen L. Alt and wife Virginia, Petersburg, with whom she resided until November 1996; son-in-law, Harlen G. Ratcliff, Petersburg; four grandchildren, Carolyn Alt, Barbara Halterman and husband George, Owen Alt Jr. and Carl Alt; one great-grandson, Tyler George Halterman; and several nieces and nephews including a nephew whom she raised, Luther P. Alt, Petersburg.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Norris O. Alt, 76, of Keyser, died at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, on Saturday, April 3, 1999.
Born March 15, 1923, in Petersburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Eugene R. and Odessa May (Judy) Alt.
Mr. Alt was a retired foreman from Westvaco. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, a member of Assumption Council 10545 Knights of Columbus, a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Boyce-Houser Post 41 American Legion, and the Nancy Hanks VFW Post 3518.
Surviving are his wife, Helen E. (Cobb) Alt; two daughters, Joanne E. Stickley and husband Michael, and Sharon L. Alt, all of Keyser; five sons, Gary N. Alt and wife Frances, Keyser, Phillip J. Born Jan. 22, 1953, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Bartos, Jr., and Delores C. (Kiessling) Bartos. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Richard Bartos.
Mrs. Alt worked at Walmart Super Center, in Moorefield, W.Va., until her illness. She was a member of New Life Revival Center, Petersburg.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon A. Alt; one son, Allen G. Simmons, Jr., Petersburg; two step sons, Wesley A. Alt, Petersburg, Josey M. Alt, Petersburg; one daughter, Pamela B. Zac Alston Paul Alt, one-month-old son of David L. and Janice L. "Peep" Haggarty Alt of Dorcas, died Sunday Aug. 5, 2001 at his home.
He was born July 9, 2001, in Petersburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Triston David Alt, at home; his grandparents, Mary Haslacker, Mernie and Paul Kimble, and Leon and Phyllis Alt, all of Dorcas; and his great-grandparents, Clara Kidy Stump and Cletus and Leota Thorne, all of Dorcas; several aunts and uncles; and several great aunts and uncles, including Kathy McConnell of Franklin.
The Revs. Craig A. Howard, Gregory A. Rotruck and Thomas "Sam" Goldizen conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brake Church of the Brethren. Burial was at Brake Cemetery in Dorcas.

Olin Edwin Alexander, 85, Pendleton Nursing Home, Franklin, and formerly of Upper Tract, died Friday Sept. 21,2001, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. He had lived at the nursing home for the past 12 years.
Mr. Alexander was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Mozer and was a son o the late Sauel Edwin Alexander and Alice Ketterman Alexander.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired farmer. He was a member of the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.
His wife, Mildred Maude Mongold Alexander, preceded him in death in 1973.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Crites and Ressie Chavis, both of Cherry Valley, CA; two sons, Arthur Alexander, Upper Tract and Dennis Miller, Petersburg; a sister, Mayme Boatman, Cherry Valley, CA; a brother, Leason Alexander, Ceredo; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The Revs. Randy Ours and Calvin Bailey conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Tuesday at South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial was at the Alexander family cemetery with military rites by the veteran's organizations of Grant County.

Petersburg--Gladys L. Arnold, 73, of here, died yesterday January 18, 1975 in Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.
Born in Hardy County, W.Va., September 3, 1901, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Ellen (Rexrode) Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Arnold, in October, 1973.
Mrs. Arnold was a member of Petersburg Church of The Brethren.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert Houff, Roanke, Va.; Mrs. James Flinn, Jr., Moorefield; a son, Arlyn Arnold, Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Emma Rotruck, Purgitsville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Petersburg Church of the Brethren by Rev. Laurean Smith, Rev. Richard Saville and Rev. Henry Cosner. Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.

A native of Scherr, Mr. Arbogast was a son of the late Salisbury and Margaret (Burgess) Arbogast. He was a veteran of World War I.

ARTHUR, W.Va. - Henry Keith Alt, age 77, of Arthur, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, at his home. He was born May 1, 1928, in Forman, and was the son of the late Theodore "Ted" Alt and Clarice (Frye) Alt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Kite.
Keith served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 78. He retired from the Grant County Board of Education. He was a member of Petersburg Lodge 145, A.F. & A.M. and a member of Osiris Shriners of Wheeling. He also was a member of the Petersburg Chapter 146, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of Grove Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Irene (Turley) Alt; one son, Wayne Keith Alt of Chesterfield, Va.; one daughter, Tammy Alt Judy of Arthur; and two granddaughters, Kendra Judy and Melissa Judy.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Sena L. Amtower, 75, Laurel Dale, died Suddenly Sunday, December 29, 1967 at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Wesley A and Anna (Buckbee) Cosner, Bismark.
Her husband, Robert W. Amtower, died in 1965.
Surviving are five sons, Ralph R. Amtower, Keyser, Haven G. Amtower, New Creek; Emory A. Amtower, New Creek and Ervio O. Amtower, New Creek, Floyd B. Amtower, Mt. Storm and one stepson, Ray S. Funeral Rites Held for Henry Arthur Alt, 59 last Friday Afternoon
Funeral services were conduced last Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Evangelical United Brethren Church for Henry Arthur Alt age 59 years, who passed away at his home here last Tuesday night following a long illness. Rev. S. J. Westfall had charge of the last rites and the remains were laid to rest in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
Deceased was a son of the late William and Martha Hedrick Alt and with his family had lived in Petersburg for a number of years. In early life, Mr. Alt was married to the late Grace Taylor and to this union was born the following children: Emory Alt, Earl Alt, Eldon Alt, and Mrs. Glen Kimble. In 1930 the deceased was married to Bessie Morteny and to this union the following children survives; William, Delmar, Denver, Mary and Pearl. Two children died in infancy. A sister Mrs. J. M. Stump of Landes, two brothers, Frank Alt and Jeff Alt, all of Pansy also survives,
The pallbearers were: William Sears, Junior Sears, Jesse Hedrick, Orville Alt, Charles Alt and Daniel Kuykendall.

Mrs. Viola Catherine (Stonestreet) Armentrout, 85, of Cabins, died Saturday April 12, 1997 at grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg,
Born February 04, 1912, at Jordan Run, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Charlotte F. (Hawk) Stonestreet. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Foster K. Armentrout, January 1986; two brothers, Melvin and Virgil Stonestreet and one sister, Hattie Rohrbaugh.
Mrs. Armentrout was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church at Seneca Rocks.
Surviving are two sons, Earl D. Armentrout of Seneca Rocks and Carl F. Armentrout of Woodbridge, Virginia; one daughter, Rose Rohrbaugh of Cabins; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Cabins Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Stephen Landis and the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Interment will be in the Armentrout Family Cemetery on Smith Mountain, Cabins.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

William Lester Ayers Sr., 89, of Dorcas, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1991, at the Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins.
Born March 17, 1902, in Smoke Hole, he was the son of the late William Riley and Mary Virginia (Borror) Ayers. He was also preceded in death by one son, Virgil Lee Ayers and one brother, Henry Ayers. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his wife, Velma F. Mongold Ayers, whom he married Oct. 17, 1930; three sons, William Martin “Pete” Ayers, Olen Richard Ayers and William Lester Ayers Jr. of Dorcas; one daughter, Sara Catherine Ketterman, Arthur; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Carl Mauzy officiating. Interment was in the Sites Cemetery, Dorcas.

Raymond B. “Bud” Alt – paper Sep 29, 1998
Raymond Bruce “Bud” Alt, 61, of Upper Tract, died Wednesday, September 23, 1998, at his residence.
Born March 14, 1937, at Smoke Hole, he was the son of the late Frank J. and May C. (VanMeter) Alt. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ervin Alt; one sister Bessie Kimble; and an infant sister, Bertha Alice Alt.
Mr. Alt was a member of Laborers Local 984, Clarksburg. He was member and treasurer of Christ Central Community Church, Upper Tract. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Cook) Alt, whom he married on February 21, 1959; one son, Bruce Alt, of Upper Tract; two daughters, Dianna Hevener of Franklin and Sharon Evick of Sterling, VA; five brothers, Burley Alt of Baltimore, MD, William “Jim” Alt of Lahmansville, Charles F. “Bo” Alt of Petersburg, Loy A. “Bubby” Alt of Green Spring, and James “Pete” Alt of Warrenton, VA; seven sisters, Wilma Wagner of Landes, Zola Kile of Upper Tract, Kathleen Raker of Williamsport, PA, Thomasine Berg of Maysville, Ganel Armentrout, Millie Hedrick and Sheila Jean Kimble, all of Upper Tract; one stepbrother, Roger Alt of Upper Tract; four grandchildren, Chad and Melissa Alt, and Wesley and Nathaniel Hevener; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday morning at Christ Central Community Church, Upper Tract, with the Rev. Edgar Null and Pastor Stephen Teter officiating. Interment was in Kline Cemetery, Kline.
Memorial may be made to Christ Central Community Church or Pendleton County Rescue Squad.

Raymond G. Armentrout – paper Sept 15, 1992
Raymond G. Armentrout, 61, of Petersburg, was dead on arrival, Wednesday, September 9, 1992 at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born September 12, 1930, in Mozer, he was the son of the late Oliver Glen Harman and Pheobe (Greenawalt) Armentrout.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Callie Leola Harman; two sisters, Leota Kesner and Juanita Sponaugle; and one brother, Curtis T. Harman.
Mr. Armentrout was a member of the St. John United Methodist Church, Petersburg. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a charter member of VFW Post 6554. He and his wife owned and operated Armentrout’s Store for 29 years.
Surviving are his wife, Christine H. (Seitz) Armentrout, whom he married September 4, 1954; three sons, SSgt. John A. Armentrout, McGuire Air Force Base, NJ; David G. Armentrout and Kevin A. Armentrout, both of Petersburg; eight sisters, Nellie Calhoun, Arbelia Calhoun, Freda Harman, Violet Hevener, Macie Mitchell, Sara Mallow, all of Upper Tract, Dolsey Harriman, Terra Alta and Lenora Deavers, Boonesboro, MD; four brothers, Earl Harman, Upper Tract, Glen Harman, Fairmont, Richard Armentrout, Herrin, IL and Carrol Dahmer, Big Spring, TX; and two grandchildren, Jason T. Armentrout and Christine Marie Armentrout.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. James Dempsey officiating. Interment was in the Kline Cemetery, Kline.
Military graveside services were accorded by the Petersburg VFW Post 6554 and American Legion Post 78.
