The Desert Shovel

I need to sleep and never wake up
Maybe then, I'll have everything I need
Because what I want is illusion

Eternal rest would keep me unaware
So that I wouldn't remember what was and what isn't
I should have it all
If I could just get to sleep

When I sit here and dream, I seem to forget
That my life is the dream my unconscious longs for
Were my eyes hid by lids
I would trade for my life
To live in the bliss of unknowing

But the sun's nearly up
And I've redrained my cup
No closer to rest for body or heart
My mind, as it is, you could always see through
Past the dreams torn apart
Where I could've had you
