GOVERNMENT and COMMUNITY SERVICE Supervisor, Durham Soil and Water Conservation District (1994-02) Responsibilities include Secretary/Treasurer of the Board (1995-96); Vice-Chairman of the Board (1996-01); Chairman of the Board (2001-02). Member of the Board of Supervisors of the Durham Soil and Water District, one of ninety-eight Districts statewide. Responsibilities include administration and oversight of state and federal conservation programs, environmental education activities, and grant solicitation. Appointed in 1994 and re-appointed in 1994 and 1998 by the N.C. Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources as one of two state representatives on a five-member Board, with three members elected by contested at-large general election. The Durham Soil and Water District was named "North Carolina District of the Year" for 1994," Goodyear/NACD North Carolina District of the Year" for 1994, "N.C. Education District of the Year" for 1994, and "Goodyear/NACD N. C. Honor District of the Year" for 1996. Associate Supervisor, Durham County (NC) Soil and Water Conservation District (1992-94). Responsibilities included promotion of soil and water conservation policies and practices and community conservation education. Appointed by the Durham Soil and Water Board of Supervisors. Councilman, Marietta Borough, Marietta, PA (1982-84). Responsibilities included Vice Chairman of Council; chairman, Zoning and Housing Committee; chair, police contract negotiations; member, regional planning commission. Legislation and administration on a full range of municipal "city" services. Complete update and rewrite of all Borough ordinances and codes. Elected to Borough Council by contested primary election and contested general election. Council was organized under a commission form of government. Member, North Carolina Marriage and Family Therapy Certification Board (1992-94). Appointed to the board by Gov. Jim Martin. Responsibilities included review of applications for board certification.
