Notes

This book tells the story of how Rauresu met Hilda, but in a slightly different version.

The art in this book is different and much older than the one featured in Seimanden.

Hilda's characterization is less than stellar. She's a bit obnoxious in this early version. Furthermore, the design and drawings of her are not much. In this version she is more of a incogrous heroine, who uses her sexual appeal to attract people. Team Bonet, avid supporters of the feminist movement, doesn't view that as possitive feminist behavior.

The book is fight heavy, featuring lots of combats.

Most of the book is swallowed by monsters and strange characters. Primakus, an older man with moustache and sinister objectives, eats up a large part of the book. So does a young lord, who resembles Berk from Seimaden, who is after Hilda. He's a nice character, but resembles Berk too much, even if Berk might have been created after him, and not vice-versa.

The book features two new female characters: Judea and Alteia. Alteia is one of Rauresu's followers, loyal, and very pretty. She favours the unrequited love of Rauresu. Judea is a cold, warrior lady who fights with Rodrique. With long, raven hair, she resembles Rauresu. This is peculiarl since further on in the book, Rodrique fights with Rauresu.

Maruka licks Rodrique's wounds at some point.

Grem is featured in the book. He is loyal to Rauresu and to Alteia, a female character unique to this book who favours Rauresu's attention. Grem, though, dies as he plunges a sword that contains Alteia into his body.

The story is somewhat left midway in the end. Rodrique and Rauresu fight over Hilda, as in Seimaden volume 1, but this is left in the air.

The one flaw this book suffers from is the art style. The characters look strange and unreal somehow. After being used to the art style in Seimaden, they appear somewhat ugly or sardonic, specially Rauresu.

Omake

The joke in this volume tells the story of how You wanted to make the pocket illustration, a Rauresu with some crystal windows. She got Rauresu into a transparency and paired this with paper in the photocopy machine. The result? She burn the drawings...

The purchase of this manga should be meditated deeply, and reserved only for those collectors who truly love Seimaden and want to experience the original story and art. Of course, if this is you, as we are, then go ahead. But, if you are starting and trying the waters, leave Azel Seimaden for a later purchase.

Introduction to the characters of Hilda, Rauresu, and Rodrique.

In this issue, Rauresu is revealed as a demonic, mean, egotistical person.
Hilda, on the other hand, is not on her best portrayal either, since she acts very sensous and appears to be your regular damcel in distress. She still resembles the Hilda from Azel Seimaden.

The art resembles the old style and design of the characters a bit, with Rauresu sporting thin, lipstick covered lips.

The story resembles that of Azel Seimaden only the characters are a lot more likeable. A good start. I would save this issue for one of the last purchases, since it runs rather slow and the art is still a bit wavery, unless you are dying to see Rauresu in his cold, lipstick mode.
