Motivational Quotes

. . . an enthusiastic Michigander, who writes, teaches college English, plays guitar, and runs marathons (26.2 miles).

I believe that the best in life still lies ahead and that I've barely scratched the surface of my potential as a person and a professional. Our lives are exactly as we've shaped them.  We're all capable of much more than we even suspect.

WILL do!"

My Four Most Important Rules in Life:

1)  Seek never-ending personal growth by constantly challenging yourself.
                     2)  Be directed by and toward your personal values and passions,
irrespective of the short term consequences!
                    3)  Never, ever give up!!
                    4)  Be kind to people; it doesn't cost anything. . .

My Passions:
. . . .are teaching, writing, music, and running  marathons.    I challenge myself by continually setting goals.  One of those major  goals was to qualify for the Boston Marathon.   After six long years of effort, failure, and persistence --  and well over 10,000 miles of training, I finally ran my first Boston on April 17th, 2000.   It was an awesome experience, rendering words pitifully impotent  . . .  Oh yeah,  3 hrs, 11 min, 18 sec;  2,646th of 15,680 finishers.  I've competed in 20 marathons to date, with a personal best of  3:06:51 (7:06/mile), on 12/5/99, at Tucson, AZ.

Current Goals
To live each day with a deep sense of appreciation for all of my blessings; continually improve as a teacher; write a column for a major publication;  publish a novel; run my first sub three-hour marathon - after I reach the age of fifty; try my hand at stand-up comedy; perform as a solo instrumentalist; and most important of all - to provide my marvelous mate with as much bliss as she gives to me.
                 On Friendship and
                             Love:

Nothing  happens in a vacuum, and  one seldom accomplishes anything of significance alone.  Consequently, we all need friends throughout our  long, difficult, and sometimes scary journey through life.
Fortunately, I am blessed:  through  running,  school, and music, I've  made  many wonderful friends.  These unselfish,  giving, and supportive people make every morning a pleasure and privilege to greet.
But most importantly,  I am  blessed with Pam, the best sweetie/soulmate in the Universe.  She's sweet, kind, thoughtful, supportive, intelligent, educated, and beautiful, and her presence in my life offers irrefutable evidence that there is a God.  We are marrying on April 22, 2006,  which makes me the luckiest and most grateful man on the planet. . . .                                                                 * * * * * *
