I conjure you nocturnal

Awaken ancient spirits of longing,
Like the restless wind upon trees moving life with the breath of mother Earth as she suspends the tides spins them
in the perpetual motion of forever kissing shores stealing life from the scorching touch of brilliant rising and setting
in endless repetition

haunting me with visions of your name
and I hear voices among them
whispering our song unto the moon

The spirits of the elders, who bleed history, knowledge, passion
one drop at a time into my bloodline, creating this entity

Born from the womb of Aphrodite, savage as a lover yet fresh-faced and tender
no stranger to the most sacred of wars and peppered with the madness of Caligula
rendering me in the image of my own worst enemy

This body bled from the starvation of peasants who chose freedom over life
on Irish battlegrounds stained red in the shades tyranny
Spilled from lips in the subtle shape of screams as flames burn immaculate
the daughter’s of Endor freeing ignorant minds from black magic
in a haunted game of pretending

Colored me a poet, with the lips of Shakespeare haunted psyche of Poe
on the breath of Soujourner’s Truth
Creating me a powerful woman casting spells as I dream you

conjure you to life night after night like light and wrap
your spirit around me you, blanketing naked arms that long to hold you
A man-made goddess, with a will that rivals Atlas, balance the world in your
arms in the shape of a word as you linger just within reach of my body

and I begin to unfold these twisted contortions peel back hardened layers of
skin burnt by blinding eyes of the sun, the cold breath of the wind
becoming calloused as a shield and I beg to let you in
Lick me pure again with the promise of innocence
as the promise of you blossoms and outgrows the unanswered questions between us

Fill the spaces with open-ended dreams and hidden meanings
discovering truths in the rhythm of the river of life
and on this night we won’t speak of forever
We won’t even speak of tomorrow for all we are is now
and I want to fall into your arms, right now
Crawl inside your brain right now
memorize the contours of your body
RIGHT NOW I find you inescapable

Tie you to me subconsciously as I dream you to life
Bend my head and make you mine
As I taste you like wine splashed slow across cracked lips and wear you on my
breath in the shape of a smile taking me out of this lifetime of lines and pages
creating me invincible and I lay myself at your altar

Because born of words blessed with language I have not much else to offer
And yet blood-stained ink flows from these veins onto fingertips hot with the
Passion of 1,000 lovers scorned creating poems on your flesh wet with the scent
of sex and history as the breathe of your ancestors flows into me
creating us immortal
Delivering me at your mercy as the ancient spirits of longing sings songs of
your power in the cadence of heartbeats eternal…

And I’m listening as you breathe and fall into the safety of dreaming and you
moan me a song . . . long, sultry and deep like me inside of you
Casting spells to conjure you in the night to light the spaces in between our
spirits seeking truth
I conjure you nocturnal.
