A cool breeze blows in off the ocean,
As the waves cascade upon the sandy beach,
And the midday sun blazes in the sky,
The long piers extend outward from the shore,
Where the great American warships are resting,
The stars and stripes flying proudly from the stern,
And on the shore as well, alongside the flag of Japan,
A U.S. base in a far east nation,
Where marines and sailors work and play,
Waiting for the call to go out for them,
Awaiting the chance to defend their nation's cause,
Ready to die fighting for freedom,
To put an end to tyranny and opression alike,
But the cause is not as clear as it once was,
The opressed do not know any other way to live,
And the tyrants are protected by international law,
But still these men wait for their day to come,
Even though the reason they're there,
Is for no reason at all.
