The slivering serpent sleeps alone,
Behind grinding slabs of pearl-capped stone.
Against the heart it yearns to lash,
When tempers fly and words are rash.
Syllabled fangs supply the sting
But, drops of blood they do not bring.
These poisoned sabers pierce emotion.
They sever ties and kill devotion.
This slimy serpent held in dark,
Is quick to strike and hit its mark.
To silence the serpent shut tightly its cage.
Control now the hatred and stifle the rage.
