Lanaia Lee's "Death Of A Pharaoh"
© 2004 by Lanaia Lee
We shall mourn for forty days as our pharaoh embarks on his journey to the land of the dead
Pharaoh Khufu shall be laid to rest in his pyramid on the Giza plateau
The biggest pyramid of all to hold the royal dead
He built it this way for his power he wanted to show.

We have to prepare his body for his journey
A long journey he will embark on to the land of the dead
Being the high priest it is my duty to help prepare his body
It is also my duty to perform the opening of the mouth ceremony on my Pharaoh's body that is dead.

This will allow his spirit to pass through the Mortuary Temple
This is the place his family will visit him and leave him gifts
Here things will always remain bright never dull
Here they pay him homage with sacrifice and gifts.

We have to mummify his body and make him ready for death
Slaves will also accompany him there
Serving him and seeing to his every need even in death
After he is laid to rest we seal the tomb so no one can ever again enter this royal lair.

We even administer a curse if by chance the tomb is unsealed
Warning no one ever enter here alone
All the necessities for the after life, the pyramid will be filled
His determination to the under world will be decided by the seeds in life he has sewn.
