M. A. Farnes's "The Sun Smiles On Me"
© 2003-2004 by M. A. Farnes
It makes my heart sing.
I know I am alive,
I feel the warmth.
Love is like that,
It softens my soul.
Makes the time I have
spent on this earth,
with all the cruelty, hatred
and abuse seem but small
slivers buried deep
within my soul.
Living is a chore
at least for me
for I have struggles
to stay on the top side of
life, when all the while someone
is pushing me to the brink of unreality.
Somehow I survived
the yelling and beatings.
I go to the never never land.
There I play out my
games and fantasies.
As a child, when I went to bed
I would blow my head up
like a balloon
and fly around the country side.
Looking down I would see people.
I would see peace and tranquility.
Looking back I know that
this was only an escape.
Was it real or was it
just a dream?
The sun shines
it's warmth on me, it feels
so good.
Love surrounds me these days.
That feels even better.
