Mer~'s "Golden Eyes"
© 2003 Mer~
Lone Black Wolf with the golden eyes,
Drifts silently out of the High Plains night,
Revealed at once when the stormy skies,
Are lit in a sudden flash of light!

I see him when Lightning flashes again,
One foot raised as though frozen in flight,
Watching me, startled and staring at him,
In awed wonder and feeling no fright!

Far in the distance another Wolf howls
And "Golden Eye's" answer, fills the night,
Silencing night birds and cry of the Owls,
Then another, and another joins the choir

The 'Pack" is moving toward the Plateau,
Where the Moon will rise to her fullest hieght,
To conjoin voices in a Song they all know ,
Serenading the Moon at midnight!

Oh! Long and long after, in dreams shall I hear,
Haunting me wild and free, song of the night,
And the golden eyed Wolf again shall appear,
Under the skies at the Plateau site!
