PC Daily Real Poetry News (The Drudge Report of the Poetry World):

Boy, what a difference a year makes. Last you heard, I was working on a contract basis with UNC SRU. That contract ended, and I worked briefly for a security company. About the same time, I applied to several airlines for the position of flight attendant.

I got a response from U.S. Airways Express. I went to an interview in Charlotte sometime around April 2005. A couple of weeks later, I heard from U.S. Airways Express recruiting department that I had been selected to attend their training class in Sept. 2005. About a month later, I got another call from operations asking if I would be interested in coming for training in June 2005.

I was! So, late June (26 Jun 2005) I started training to become a flight attendant for U.S. Airways Express. The trainers were terrific. The classes were interesting and loaded with information and facts to learn. There were a number of tests to take, and failing any of them with a score below 85, you had just 1 retake. If you failed the retake, you were out. It took a great deal of studing and preperation, but 23 of us finally passed, and graduated in late July 2005.

If this sounds a little like a fairy tale, you would be right. With my background, it would take a miracle for me to be hired. And that miracle occured, and I'm now working as a flight attendant domiciled in Charlotte, NC. I fly every week as a reserve all over the East Coast, and eastern Canada. It's a ball, and I'm having the time of my life.

I overnight in various towns and cities from Ottawa, Canada to Key West, FL. The RON's change, but Louisville is one spot I've overnighted often, as well as Cleveland, Portland, Manchester, Philadelphia, and Jacksonville.

Hope to see some of you in person. And, fly U.S. Airways Express when you can, and I might be working the flight!
