Haley Diane Volpe "He Asked Her To Dance"
© 2003 Haley Diane Volpe
She had no idea what the day would hold
Many memories she tried to keep buried
Rising up to the surface once again

Strangers listening
Detail by detail
Evidence few people knew

Her life displayed
Life once again
Out of her control

Inside the great halls of justice
She waited for what she felt
Was her fate

Would she be believed
Or condemed
To a lifetime of guilt and shame

The accused walked by
Never casting a glance
upon her face

He chose not to see
the fear and terror
His presence caused

No acknowledgement made
As if the crime he commited
Was complete,she ceased to exsist

She summoned up the courage
Facing the truth
To proclaim her innocence, verify his guilt

The man by her side
Stood silent
Searching for the words

This journey she was on
Was her own
He could not travel it with her

Within him he realized
He could be there waiting
With his arms open

He turned to her
The words taking form
And asked her to dance

In that moment
The past was erased
All was perfect
