| Brandi Marie Smith, 21, of Malta, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident on South Malta Road. Born Dec. 2, 1979, in DeKalb, she was the daughter of David J. and Karen M. (Martinson) Smith. Brandi graduated from Malta High School in 1998. She was on the volleyball and baseball teams and participated in gymnastics during her high school years. Survivors include a daughter, Carmen Marie Hettel, and Carmen's father, Brandon Hettel of Fort Still, Okla.; her parents, David and Karen Smith of Malta; two brothers, Joshua Smith and Jeremy (Melissa) Smith, both of Malta; a sister, Shannon (Chris) Catullo of St. Louis, Mo.; maternal grandmother Betty Martinson of Malta; paternal grandparents Joe and Norma Smith of Elizabethtown, Ky.; paternal great-grandmothers Lena Ballard of Elizabethtown and Jessie Smith of Bemidji, Minn.; a nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Brandi was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Raymond Martinson, and her paternal great-grandfathers, Guy Smith and James Ballard. The memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with Rev. Judy Giese of the Malta United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place. |
