ATLANTA GRABS FRASOR.

Atlanta used the farm free agent signing period to add a little insurance to next year's bullpen by acquiring RHP Jason Frasor.

Fire Ants drop 3 out of 4 to Sea Cats (July 18, 2004) - Atlanta outhit South Carolina 12-9 but stranded 12 men in the game and lost 5-3 in game one.  Mark Hendrickson was the tough luck loser going 6 2/3 IP with 1 ER and 7 K.  Atlanta rebounded in the 2nd game with the help of 3 Sea Cat errors winning 6-3.  Andy Pettitte's struggles continue for South Carolina as he losses his 10th of the year.  Atlanta's offense provided little support and starter Ted Lilly had trouble getting Sea Cats out as Atlanta losses 6-1 in game three.  Garrett Anderson went 3-5 and is now 9 for 14 over the first three games of the series.   Game four was a long day for Atlanta pitchers as South Carolina pounded out 13 runs on 17 hits. Atlanta starter Darren Dreifort took his 5th loss of the season giving up 6 runs in only 3 innings of work.   Click for boxscores.
Great Lakes Sphinx 'great' sweeping Atlanta (July 12, 2004) - In game one Atlanta made Great Lakes starter John Burkett look like a potential Cy Young Award winner.  Burkett had great stuff going 8 innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 unearned run to get just his 2nd win of the year, 6-1.  Atlanta was able to created a little offense in game two but a 3-3 game in the 7th quickly became a Great Lakes 10-3 blowout as the bullpen allowed 7 ERs. Podsednik went 4-5 with 2 SB for Atlanta.  The bullpen failed Atlanta again in lossing game three 6-5.  Antonio Osuna surrendered two key hits in the eigth inning to allow Great Lakes to score 3 runs in the inning.  Game four will be talked about in Atlanta lore for years to come.  Atlanta took a 10-2 lead into the 8th inning but a 7-run 8th inning and 2-run 9th gave Great Lakes the 11-10 win and series sweep.  Click for boxscores.
Fire Ants finish chapter with series win over Kansas (August 1, 2004) - Kansas got a complete game outing from Greg Maddux while Jay Payton and Ken Harvey hit home runs in a 9-4 Law Dogs win.  Both teams played sloppy committing 3 errors each.  In game two Atlanta got 5 solid innings from starter Darren Dreifort in route to a 6-3 victory.  Three Atlanta relievers surrendered only 1 hit in 4 innings of work while Kansas starter Tim Hudson took his 10th loss of the year.  Atlanta's offense struck early and often in game three and scored 10 runs on 15 hits in a 10-2 win.  Atlanta scored 8 runs in the first 4 innings with the help of home runs by Lo Duca and Abreu.  Atlanta starter Glendon Rusch pitched 6 2/3 strongs innings, striking out 8 and giving up 1 ER.  In the finale, Atlanta once again got solid performances from both starter Mark Hendrickson and the bullpen in route to a 3-1 victory and 5th series win of the year.
