all men once to dye do make & ordain this my last will & testament in the

manner & form following: Item my will is that my wife Elizabeth TRAYLOR

should have the use of two negroes Suckey & Ned during her life. Also I

give to my said wife twenty pounds currant money of this Commonwealth P.

(per?) year also I further give her the use of a horse and saddle during

her widowhood as also one third part of all the rest of my house hold

furniture kind to my said wife during her widowhood. Item I give to my

son Jesse TRAYLOR three negroes viz one negro woman named Murrier & her

child named Murrier as also one negroe woman named Amey which he hath now

in his possession to him & his heirs forever. Item I give to my daughter

Loremoth BEVIL one cow & calf to her & her heirs. Item I give to my

daughter Elizabeth JACKSON one negro girl named Frank now in her

possession also one cow & calf to her & her heirs forever. Item I give

to my grandson Archer BURTON one negro girl named Lucy when he shall

attain to the age of twenty one years & if my said grandson should dye

before he should come to the afd. age of twenty one years that then my

son Archer TRAYLOR should enjoy the said negro Lucy. I also further give

to my said grandson a bed & furniture, also twenty pounds currant money

of this Commonwealth in the same manner as I give the said negro girl

Lucy to him & his heirs for ever. Item I give my son Archer TRAYLOR all

my land in the County of Chesterfield as also the rest of my estate not

yet given away both negroes & other estate that I possess with what I

have lent to my said wife Elizabeth TRAYLOR; after her death I give the

same to my son Archer TRAYLOR to him & his heirs forever. Item my will

is that my estate not be appraised. Item I constitute & appoint my son

Archer TRAYLOR & my friend Thomas WORSHAM my sole executors of this my

last will & testament revoking all other wills by me made. In

Mrs. Elizabeth Traylor-better known to the people of Elida (New Mexico) as "Grandma Traylor," was married to Mr. Joseph L. Traylor, and to this union three girls and one boy were given. One girl, Mrs Roofie (Rube) Wilson lives at Hillsboro, Texas and the boy J. M. (James Milton) Traylor, lives in Elida. It was with this son that Grandma made her home. Sister Traylor was born in Breedings, Adair County, Kentucky. About 15 years ago she came to Texas. There she buried her husband and some 11 years ago she came to this place. Her maiden name was Cox....

2) ADAIR COUNTY NEWS, (KY) 10 Apr 1901: Mr. Jas. A. Traylor, who spent the greater portion of his lile (sic) near Breeding, Adair County, died at his late home, near Hillsboro, Texas. Some years ago he was a member of the Adair County Court, being a magistrate from the Leatherwood district. - ???

3) from an undated obituary in a Hillsboro, TX newspaper - Mr Ben S. Harvey Monday afternoon received a telegram from his nephew, Mr. Melvin W. Traylor of Ballinger, formerly of Hillsboro, conveying the information of the death of the latters father, Mr. J. M. Traylor, which occured Monday at 10 o'clock at his home in Breedings, Ky, from an attack of fever, from which he had been ill about a week. Deceased was a brother-in-law of Mr. Harvey, having married Mr. Harvey's eldest sister. He was also a cousin to Mr. Geo.W. Patterson of this city. He is survived by his wife and six children, four of whom reside in Kentucky, and two, Messrs Melvin Traylor and M. M. Traylor, the latter of Malone, in this county. 7) from obituary in unnamed paper - Melvin Alvah Traylor, Oct. 21, 1878 - Feb. 14, 1934, banker, was born in Breeding, Ky., the son of James Milton and Kitty Frances (Hervey) Traylor. His grandparents, Methodists and Jeffersonian Democrats, had moved to Kentucky from Virginia. He was the eldest of 7 children. In 1898 he went to Hillsboro, Tex., where he studied law. Passed his bar in 1901. Was city clerk (1901), and asst. county attorney (1904-05). He started his banking career as cashier of a bank at Malone, Tx. from 1905-07. He then became cashier and later vice-president of the Citizens' National Bank in Ballinger, Tex. This bank consolidated with the First National Bank and he was elected president. In 1911 the Stock Yards Natl. Bank of East St. Louis, Ill., made him vice-president, and 3 years later he was given a similar appointment at the Live Stock Exchange Natl. Bank at the Chicago Stock Yards. He was soon make pres. of the bank, and also of the Chicago Cattle Loan Company 1914-19. During the World War he organized the local campaign for the Treasury dertificate of indebtedness, and by that time was recognized as one of the outstanding bankers of Chicago. He was president of the Illinois Bankers Assoc. (1923-24), vice-pres (1924-26) and president (1926-27) of the American Bankers'Association, president of the Shedd Aquarium Society, and trustee of Northwestern University, of Berea College, and of the Newberry Library. His wife, Dorothy Arnold (Yerby) whom he had married on June 8, 1906, and two children survived him.
