history and genealogy web site.

The 1872 courthouse.

Collin County, Texas, was founded in 1846 when Texas became a state.  It was named after Collin McKinney, who lived in the county and was one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The county is located north of Dallas County, and about 30 miles south of the Red River. The county seat of McKinney was also named after Collin McKinney.

The western part of Collin County was part of the Peters Colony, a land development company created by the Republic of Texas to bring settlers to the area.

This site is currently being revamped and moved to a new location.
