CD of the "Week"....

...........Steady Pull, Jonatha Brooke...

If you've never heard of her, then you're just not reading my webpage. In my opinion, simply the best songwriter out there right now, bar none. She makes me want to be a better writer, I don't believe you can get a compliment higher than that as a writer. I first fell in love with her music when i heard Plumb featuring lyrics like "i will turn my back to the wind of your wake, to the cold shards of the lives strewn behind you...to you is there nothing sacred" and "you'll try to hide me under the matress with all your other short sins." I then went out and purchased some of her older stuff- one of which was an incredible album called angel in the house that threw out lyrics like "where's the heart in me that made the one in you so cold...please don't go" and "i'd settle for less but i'd hold you accountable." By the time her new album, 10¢ Wings, came out i was a full fledged fan. With passionate songs like crumbs which states "in your dreams all your passion is like liquid fire" and, my favorite, landmine which pleads "I give my love to you, and you, so brave, sing 'heroes' when you're all alone, you balk at what you should have known, you've got nothing to lose, but me, you lose me, love me, choose me"... wow.

Steady Pull picks right up where she left off with the title track warning...

my friends all think they've lost me,
my family's up in arms,
but no one ever noticed 'til I sounded the alarm,
there's danger in complacency and comfort in the fight,
for the way that you whisper in the sweetness of the night,
the sweetness of the night,

cuz I feel the steady pull of things that I can't see...and I like it.
