Why would a Northern Heathen hold friendship with Romans, the enemies and rivals of his Germanic-Celtic forebears?
Simply, one facet of Asatru is looking to one's heritage and giving full honor thereto.
I am a man of mixed heritage, my ancestors roamed the wide expanse of Europe: from the Ural Mountains of Russia in the East to the briny Atlantic waves off the coast of Ireland in the West, from the stony soil of Italy's instep in the South to the green forested hills of Scandinavia in the North.
My forebears were an interesting lot, from many tribes: German and Celt, Latin and Hellene, Iberian and Gaul, Balt and Slav... (with a bit of Mohawk in the mix ;-)
So, I am a Nova Roman, in part, to honor the wondrous variety within my forebearage.
I am also a Nova Roman because the pre-Hellenic Religio (of which I am not a practitioner) is much like mine own Heathen practices, plus I like many of the other Cives.
As an Heathen of sound mind, I can give Honr and Respect, without Worship.
