Insects

Below is a beautiful visitor - this was the first time a dragonfly had paid us a visit!  I was rather surprised to see a dragonfly in the habitat since we don't have a pond.  He was very large with about a 4" wingspan.  He rested for a time on one of the laurels and then flew off, I assume in search of water.  The guide book says it is a forest dragonfly.
