Fort Williams - Glen Coe - Loch Lomond - Dumbarton 160 km. Approx. total hill climb: 550 meters. Highest point: Rannoch Moor 320 meters above sea level. Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor. These two historic names strikes fear into a long distance cyclist. These two mountains (each on over 300 meters) offers very hard cycling over a distance over 50 km. The cycling is not particular steep, but it is without any rest or easy parts. The cycling in this very majestic landscape is also very exposed towards wind, rain or sunshine. Whatever weather; these 50 kilometres takes everything out of the cyclist. This tour is by far the toughest cycle trip in the West Of Scotland. But it is also one of Scotland's most beautiful cycle trips. This cycle trip is a classic and a must do |

Uig -Kyle of Lochalsh via Trotternish (Isle Of Skye) 115 km. Approx. total hill climb: 500 meters. Highest point: 200 meters (Sconser - Loch Ainort) Isle Of Skye has rightfully claimed a place as a paradise for lovers of mountains. It also have a reputation for being a paradise for cyclists too. Although it is more infamous than famous among cyclists. The weather and the midges is among the factors that make Isle Of Skye infamous. The roads are also very, very hilly. The lack of shops and the remoteness of the island also make this a difficult cycle trip. Isle Of Skye is indeed a very serious cycle tour. But the landscape make this cycle trip an essential cycle trip. If there exists a prettier place in Europe; I would be most surprised. The views along the road around the Trotternish peninsula is stunning and out of this world. I highly recommend this cycle trip. Although only 115 km., this is a serious cycle tour. There is youth hostels in Broadford, Uig and Portree. I stayed in the youth hostels in Uig and Broadford. I recommend both of them |
Cycling around Kirkcudbrightshire. Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. Grand Tour. 78 miles maximum This round trip visits both well known and lesser known places in Galloway. Beyond New Galloway, the tour may be shortened by returning by more direct routes. As a interesting but relaxed introduction to cycle touring ,this route is highly rated. At only 78 miles it could be done in a day but what a waste of scenery and countryside, take your time and stop for the odd pint,,,,,,,,,,, |
Perth to Inverness This is one of the best written and presented cycle guides I have come across, also one of the best routes, I have yet to do the whole thing but plan to do so in May this year, more coming soon on completion. |
kingdom of Fife cycle way Designing a cycle route suitable for riders with varying abilities is not an easy task, neither is making same the route “safe” for everyone. Experienced riders would think nothing of cycling parts of this route while others would baulk at the prospect. So if at times the route seems to be a little quirky, forgive the designers they have done their best with what they have. What the Council have come up with was a 168 km or 105 miles circular route linking the Forth and Tay Bridges, running from North Queensferry to Tayport and back by way of St. Andrews, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy |
Hebridean Long Distance Cycling Route The best thing about the Hebrides for cyclists is their geography! Nowhere else in Britain will you find a chain of islands so completely different to anywhere else and also so unique individually. The great thing about an archipelagos group of islands is that each island is so close to the next one but radically different in scenery, cultural traits and wildlife. Cyclists can hop through the chain in no time and tick off the islands they have traversed while feeling like they have seen a whole country |
