INTERIOR ATTACK

Object:  To extend a 1 1/2 inch hose line, 100 feet in length, through an obstacle course, knocking down cones with a fire stream at course end.

1.   This event will consist of four (4) firefighters that will be wearing full protective clothing, plus face piece (no air tank or harness will be utilized).  The face piece will be covered, eliminating vision by wearer.  The low pressure air hose will be removed.

2.   In addition to the four (4) hose men, two (2) other members of the team will be allowed on the course to act as “eyes” for the hose men.  They will instruct the hose men through the obstacle course verbally but cannot, at any time, touch the personnel, tools, equipment or any part of the obstacle course.

3.   There will be three (3) 55 gallon drums, laying on their side with both ends open, on the obstacle course in a staggered fashion (see diagram).  The hose men must extend the hose line through each of the barrels in proper sequence.  After the third barrel is exited, two hose men must then knock down two (2) cones for the contest to end.  Two (2) hose men must be at the nozzle before it is opened and the third hose man must have passed through barrel one (1) and barrel two (2) completely before the line can be opened.  Time will stop when both of the cones are knocked over.  Hose man four (4) does not have to go through any of the barrels.  He is responsible for charging the line.  Remember that water is being guided by the “eyes” team members who must also advise when the hose men have reached the proper position so that water may be flowed.

4.   Firefighters and hose will start at the “starting line.”  The hose will be uncharged and accordioned behind the firefighters.  The nozzle will be on the ground at least six (6) feet from the hose men.

5.   At no time during this event can any of the hose men stand up.  They must crawl at all times.  In addition, at no time can any of the hose men touch their face piece with their hands.  Touching the face piece will result in a two (2) second penalty for each occurrence.  If, in the opinion of the judge, a hose man pulls the mask from his face, the team will be disqualified.

The nozzle man cannot break the plane (lean out over the “end line”), or a 2 second penalty will be charged.

NOTE:  Knee pads will be allowed and are suggested.
