Come meet my new son Cyrus Dominick Orion Grzyb.

In January 2002 I found out I was pregnant (about 7 weeks).  This was shocking but wonderful news considering I was told I had a 1 in a million chance of getting pregnant with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).  The pregnancy was going wonderful.  I was having morning sickness but I delt with it.  It was all worth it to me.  Kevin told me I was pregnant before I found out but I didn't believe him.  I started crying when the nurse told me my test result was positive.

I went to my first Drs appt. and I was 9 weeks at that time and everything looked good.  I had my first ultrasound at 13 weeks and the baby looked perfect.  I had another ultrasound at 23 weeks and the baby was growing fast and was about 2 weeks a head in size development.  The first ultrasound set my due date as August 28, 2002 which sounded right accourding to my last period.  The ultrasound Tech told Kevin and I at that time she thought it was a girl lol.  So we began preparing for a girl.

On July 5th I got up in the morning for my Doctors appointment not knowing what was about to happen.  I had been having contractions about 3 per hour for about a week with weird pains but thought it was normal.  I told the nurse about it and was hooked to a monitor which didn't show any contractions but just to be safe the doctor checked me and I was already 3 cm dialated and 90% effaced and at 0 station and the water was about to break so since I was only at 32 weeks I was sent to the hospital for preterm labor.  Once at the hospital I was hooked to monitors which showed contractions every 2-3 minutes and very strong.  I was going to go into real labor if they didn't do something quick.  They gave me Magnisium Solfate (I think that is what it was called) and it made me feel like I had the flu.  They gave me some other drugs at the Doctors request and I was admitted to the hospital.  I remained in the hospital on medications until July 20th at which time I was dismissed with a Turb pump that kept pumping drugs into my system to keep me from having the baby.  I was also released on bedrest which was awful and depressing.

On July 31st at 11:00 am I was taken off the pump because the insurance only covered until 36 weeks and I was at that point.  I was already having 11 contractions in an hour at that point.  I continued to have stronger contractions more frequently.  By 11 pm they were 3 minutes apart and about 55 seconds long.  The pain was getting intense.  At 3:30 am on the 1st of August it was really strong and about 2 minutes apart lasting 65 seconds.  I called my doctor at 4:30 am and I was told to go to the hospital.  I had to wake my mom and husband up and call my grandparents so we could all head out.

We arrived at the hospital around 5:30 am and rushed to labor and delivery.  Contractions were 1 minute apart lasting about 70 seconds at that point.   I was taken to a birthing room to find out if I was really in labor.  After being hooked up to monitors for an hour they decided I was in labor and called my doctor to let her know what was going on.  She said to begin antibiotics and let the neo unit know since he was 4 weeks early.  At 8:45 am the doctor came in and broke my water.  The contractions didn't seem to stop after that.  They checked and I was 4 1/2 cm, 100% effaced and almost +2 station.  That was at 9:50 am.  My family was told it would be about 5 hours probably so my stepdad decided to head home.  At 10:00 am I felt a lot of pressure as if I had to use the bathroom and couldn't.  The nurse checked and I was ready to push.  My doctor was about 25 minutes away thinking she had plenty of time to get back to the hospital before I was ready so the nurse got the on-call doctor and she asked if I wanted to try to wait or if I wanted to push.  At that point I said I just wanted to push because he wasn't waiting.  They barely got the supplies setup before his head started coming out.  At 10:06 am after about 6 pushes my little boy was born weighing 7 lbs 13.6 oz.  He was a lot bigger and stronger than they expected.  The delivery was so fast he had bruises on his head, face and his right arm.  The doctors asked if my dates could have been off because he was assesed as a 38 wk baby development wise, but there is no way the dates are off.  He is truelly a miricle and a gift from GOD.  I did have a 2nd degree rip that had to be stitched up but it didn't hurt until a few hours later when I tried to walk.  My mom and Kevin were in the room when I had him.  I looked down as he was coming out and it was all so amazing.  I was amazed when I seen how big he was and still am amazed that he came out of me and that I have a son.  I am so happy holding my little boy.  He was born with jaundice but is doing wonderfully now.  He was on Similac in the hospital, but wasn't doing to good on it so I switched him to breastmilk and he is so much better now.  I now believe breast is best if possible. Everyday I think he looks more like his daddy and he is getting so strong and big.  He gained all of his birth weight back plus some as of his last Drs appt on the 16th of August.  He weighed 8 lbs at that time.  He came lay on his back or stomach and lift his head up, he loves to smile and we have heard him giggle a few times.  He is very alert and interested in his surroundings.  He seems to recognize his name and the voices of his family.  He doesn't like to sleep alone though and he eats every 1 to 2 hours which is makes me tired but I am happy to do it just to know he is healthy and strong.  He has also rolled from his back to his stomach twice and from his stomach to his back once.  I have gotten really good at recongnizing his cries too which helps.  He really loves his family.  I plan to keep him on breast milk as long as I can.

Well there is my experience.  Just minutes after giving birth I said "I could do it again" and  I really hope to have another one in a couple years, but if not I will be happy just having my son.
