My Guide

INTRODUCTION
This is page is being re-built with a different, higher aim in mind.
It will be a gradual process over time; I did not want to put it off any
longer, so for a start, here are my most precious quotes and personal
formulas for guidance through life.
An explanation of the formulas will follow..
(Some quotes are in my home language, Afrikaans - I'll be inserting translations later
and perhaps start a separate Afrikaans section.)
I can recommend the Christian books written by Adrian Plass (currently reading "Jesus - Safe, Tender, Extreme" - I never thought a book on religion
could be so gripping and enjoyable to read!

FORMULAS
for..
Life: DG(3L,W,S(DF,DE,M))
Relationships: L+K+Sbh; JBLCSU-FOREN-WBUOH
Work : P(b,dr,di,f); Excp(4E:efficient,effective,energetic,ethical)

 Explanation of the "Life Formula"

DG = Deo Gloria => Live your life to the glory of God.
Three ways of doing this:
3L = L is for (3-way) love: Love God above all, love yourself and
equally, other people (even those you don't like - still be
          good to them).
W = Witnessing - share your faith by talking about it at the right times
and living so as to attract others to your faith.
S = Success - develop and use your talents in whatever work you can do
          well, to His glory.
          Towards achieving success, you need:
          DF = Discipline applied to Focus;
          DE = Discipline applied to Effort;
M = Marketing - all your focused hard work and even good results
can be to no avail if nobody knows about it and benefits from it.

QUOTES

"Ek is God die Almagtige. Lewe naby My en wees opreg!" Gen.17:1.
My own translation: 'I am God the Almighty. Live close to me and be sincere!"

"... as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the
Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds"
Psalm 73, vv.27-28.

"God besit al die mag. Niemand in die hemel of op die aarde
is so sterk soos Hy nie. God sal sorg dat jy in Hom bly glo."
Romeine 16:25
My translation: "God as all the power. No-one in heavem or on earth
is as strong as He is; God will make sure that you keep on believing
in Him." Romans 16:28

Hab. 2:4: Wees 'reg gesind.' (i.e. 'have the right atitude').

"For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD,
'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray
to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:11-13(NIV)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;..."
Galatians 22:25 .. in Afrikaans:

"Die vrug van die Gees is liefde, blydskap, vrede, lankmoedigheid,
vriendelikheid, goedheid, getrouheid, sagmoedigheid, selfbeheersing."
Gal. 5:22

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift
of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I
have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,
but have not love, I gain nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.

Peter said, "Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in
his steps. He never sinned, and he never deceived anyone. He did not
retaliate when he was insulted. When he suffered, he did not threaten to
get even. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges
fairly" 1 Peter 2:21-23, NLT.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If
one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and
has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep
warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NIV)

"Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will
have it. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding
a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins,
too" (Mark 11:24-25, NLT).

"Poverty and shame will come to him who neglects discipline, but he who
regards reproof will be honored."
Proverbs 13:18

= = (Not in the Bible) = =

"We can tell what fills us on the inside by what comes out under pressure".

"What I do today is important because I am paying a day of my life for it.
What I accomplish must be worthwhile because the price is high"

"Work like you don't need the money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one is watching."

"God didn't promise days without pain,
laughter without sorrow, sun without rain,
but He did promise strength for the day,
comfort for the tears and light for the way."

Behandel mense asof hulle is wat hulle behoort te wees
en jy help hulle om te word wat hulle in staat is om te word.

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven.
We have been preserved, the many years, in peace and prosperity.
We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation
has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the
gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and
enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in
the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were
produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too
self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving
grace, too proud to pray to God that made us!" ~Abraham Lincoln

"I am reminded of the words of America's second President, John Adams,
when he said, 'Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the
Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his
conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged
in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice,
kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and
reverence toward Almighty God.... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would
this region be.' " -- Bill Bright.

" ..they asked him how they were going to feed the 5000, who had stayed
around to hear him speak. He asked them what they had in their hand.
So often what we already have in our hand is what Jesus wants us to use
to solve our problems. We must add faith to what we already have in our
hand. Then we will see the gospel of the Kingdom manifested to solve
problems in a supernatural way."

"Modern-day Josephs are prepared through their own versions of bruised feet,
with shackles and necks put in irons. It is often through the adversity of
failed finances, failed marriages, failed relationships, and broken dreams.
These are the things that try men the most. These are the things God uses to
allow the Josephs of our day to be proven by the Word of the Lord. Once proven,
God brings them out of their prisons and uses them mightily for His purposes."
 -- Os Hillman (Marketplace Meditations)

"No one has a claim on life. No one knows how long he will live. The only
thing that really matters in our lives is what we do for Christ. To this end we
are to live holy lives, trust Him, love Him with all our hearts, minds and souls,
and do His will." -- Bill Bright.

"As a third-century man was anticipating death, he penned these last
words to a friend: 'It's a bad world, an incredibly bad world. But I
have discovered in the midst of it a quiet and holy people who have
learned a great secret. They have found a joy which is a thousand times
better than any pleasure of our sinful life. They are despised and
persecuted, but they care not. They are masters of their souls. They
have overcome the world. These people are Christians -- and
I am one of them.' " -- Bill Bright.
