I am Getachew Assefa from Ethiopia, the oldest nation in the world. I have a B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from Addis Ababa University, in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia. I have recently finished my M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure (EESI) in the Royal Institute of Technology ( KTH), Stockholm.

I have done my thesis with Bjorn Forstell, Anna Björklund, and Ola Eriksson, on Environmental Systems Analysis of Waste Management: Prospects of Hydrogen Production from Waste for Use in Fuel Cell Vehicles(FCVs). You may read the abstract of my thesis.

After finishing my thesis, since March, 2000 I am working as a research engineer at the Division of Industrial Ecology, Royal Institute of Technology.

The task has to do with evaluation of the Rondeco large scale composting method in terms of environmental impacts of different types and primary energy consumption. It is compared against conventional method of incineration.
Although the Rondeco project is done the final report is still undone due to some technical problems.

Since last August, 2000, I am working as a research engineer at the same institute but in two different divisions, the Divison of Built Environment Analysis and the Division of Industrial Ecology. I have also started my Ph.D. studies from September, 2000.

So currently my list of things to do include:

ORWARE as a Technology Assessment tool, Evaluation of Catalytic Combustion of Gasfified Waste with conventional way of treating waste and flame combustion.

ORWARE, Accounting for the Building Phase of Waste Management Plants.

EcoEffect, an LCA-model development for assessing the environmental performance of a built environment during its use phase.

Learning the Swedish language [Important to do until you take off from Arlanda air port].The good thing in Sweden is almost everybody speaks English. So you don't have to do any language course if you think you are too lazy to take in the melody-sounding Svenska.

Assisting in M.Sc. course, at least this task kept me very busy for the months of september and october. I am relieved now that I am done and got the time to update this page.
