INTERNET RESOURCES FOR THE DISABLED AND THEIR FAMILIES

The web sites below cover a variety of subjects.  In turn, these sites can link you to many more useful sites.  Some sites are even more useful for the links they provide, rather than their particular information.  Depending on the site, you can download or print articles, laws, lesson plans, curriculum, public education documents, and other information relating to your area of interest.  Some basic forms are provided for reference.

Please do not be discouraged by the large amount of material you can access.  It will take time to become familiar with the benefits of a particular site.    Keep in mind that if you do not want to download or print the information out, some information is available, or obtainable, from local libraries.  Some sites will sell the information for what is usually a reasonable fee.

Some sites may include parenting information and medical information, as well as stories and experiences those affected by disabilities. Remember, all the information you find will not always be 100% reliable.  Also, consider that some information may have been interpreted and reworded depending on the writer’s (or site’s) perspective.  Government Agency run sites are usually very concrete in their approach and are more “black & white” than privately run sites.

Sometimes privately run sites will try to sell you something along with the free information they provide.  Each person must weigh the reliability of the site on their own before purchasing any online items. I have listed the sites in order of what I have found most helpful. If you discover a problem with a site, or wish to suggest adding a site, please let me know.
