14 Bolt Disc Brake Conversion

This page lists some pics of the installation of disc brakes on the rear 14 Bolt Axle. I picked up these caliper brackets from DERBINATOR on ColoradoK5. The fit and finish of the brackets was excellent.

The lugs were pressed out to separate the hubs from the old drums. I was going to use the discs from the donor front 10 bolt, but they were under spec to be turned. Had to pick up discs from a 3/4 ton '77 Chevy 4X4. These were then installed onto the rear hubs using a hydraulic press to place the studs in.

Cost:
Caliper brackets to my door ----------------------- 1 @ 106.46 = 106.46
Remove/install studs ---------------------------------- 1 @ 15.00 = 15.00
Brake hose banjo bolt from junkyard (2)-------------- 1 @ 2.00 =     2.00
O'Reilly Item numbers:
81-60427 - 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 front Rotor ---- 2 @ 33.99 = 67.98
F76074S - Caliper guide pin (set of 2) --------------- 2 @ 10.19 = 20.38
Autozone Part numbers:
C502 & C503 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 P/U caliper - 2 @ 13.99 = 27.98
77028 - 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 P/U brake hose --- 2 @ 21.99 = 43.98
TOTAL----------------------------------------------------------$283.66

Tips:
The lug bolts can be beaten out with hammer and a closed lug nut on the bolt, but I found it far easier to have them pressed back in with the new rotors.
I couldn't get the O'Reilly brake hoses to route right. They have a formed metal line off the caliper. The Autozone hoses are all rubber except the fittings.
Be sure to mount the calipers with the bleed screw toward the top to aid in proper air release in the brake system.
With this setup there is no mechanical parking brake, which may (probably) fail the vehicle on an inspection. Other alternatives to this is a hydraulic lock (still not legal) or a driveshaft mounted parking brake.
