What is poverello productions?
We are a media production organization created and based on the ideals of the Catholic Worker movement, started in the 1930s by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin.  Among these ideals are a rejection of pursuing money for its own sake or of working for the acquisition of money, working instead for the sake of the work itself and for the common good of all.
Our work at poverello productions, in keeping with Catholic Worker tradition, is drawn from and summarized by the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.  We create film, video, and other media not simply to entertain but also to educate and inspire, with the aim of improving our society and our world, one person at a time.  It is a long-standing Catholic Worker tradition, indeed a longer-standing Catholic tradition, that such change begins with oneself first;  "You are the light of the World", the Gospel tells us.  Gandhi said to "become the change you wish to see in the world".  Thus poverello productions actively seeks out basic unmet human needs in our community of Portland, Maine, and works to meet them according to our means and abilities, whether organizationally or individually.
