Dance Dance Revolution, in my mind, is one of the greatest games ever made. In this game arrows scroll up on the screen. When the arrows hit a certain spot, you must hit the corresponding arrow on the dancepad. The arrows go with the beat of the song. In the original version of the game, it has 4 arrows and two dance pads. In the second version called Dance Dance Revolution Solo, there are 6 arrows and only one dance pad.
There are three difficulties in the game. Basic is the easiest of the three. Trick/Another is the difficulty that has slightly harder steps than basic. Maniac/Step Step Revolution is the hardest of the difficulties, and compared to basic, it is extremely hard.
This is my all time favorite game. Out of all the games that are made by Bemani, this is the one I have the most experience with.
Below are pictures of things that relate to the game.

The game also has special modes. Shuffle is when the arrows are random, but still correspond with the beat of the song. There are three Shuffles for one song. Little is when the 1/2 beats, 1/8 beats, or offbeat steps are off, and only 1/4 steps are used. Right is when the player is supposed to face the right when playing because the arrows were rotated 90 degrees to the right. Left is when the player is suppossed to face the left when playing because the arrows were rotated 90 degrees to the left. Mirror is when the arrows are rotated 180 degrees so that in some cases the player does not need to see the screen. Hidden is when the arrows start to disappear when they get up 3/4's of the screen. Sudden is when the arrows appear only 3/4's up the screen. Stealth is when the arrows do not show up at all.
In the game there are two types of players.
A High Scorer is a player that has the goal to get the highest combo possible in a song. High Scorers usually play Step Step Revolution(SSR) or Maniac songs. When they accomplish a certain rank, they try S4R or HS3R. S4R is Shuffle Sudden Step Step Revolution. HS3R is Hidden Shuffle Step Step Revolution.
A Performance Player creates routines to impress the crowd and for their own personal fun. They use moves such as slides, spins, knee drops, matrix walks and more to create an impressing routine. Freestyle Players are very similar to a Performance Player. The only difference is that a Freestyle Player makes up a routine "on-the-spot" as he plays. The player uses the exact same moves as a Performance Player, but a Freestyle player does not take extra time to figure out a routine.
Dance Dance Revolution has also been a feature in webcomics on the Internet. Below are links to those webcomics.

Since this sport is still "evolving" new things have come besides HS3R and S4R. Teams have now emerged in the DDR scene. A few of those names are found in the Shout Outs page. However, those are the teams in the NorthWest area. Other Teams include Team ChangoLand, Team Gwai Lo, Strictly Business, A-Team and C-Squad.
I do know the Teams in the Shout Outs page. I was once on Team TrickStar*, but I later quit that Team for personal reasons.
