Sertab Erener Born in the year: 1964 Born in: Istanbul, Turkey Sertab has had six years of musical education at Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and the Government Conservatory. She stood out by addicting herself to music. After her education, Sertab began performing in popular clubs in Istanbul, with her own orchestra. In the late 1980's, she was a backing singer for the queen of Turkish pop music, Sezen Aksu. In 1989 and 1990, Sertab performed in the Turkish Eurovision Finals, with the songs Hasret and Sen Benimlesin (respectively). Sertab's debut album, Sakin Ol, became the best selling debut album in Turkey. It sold 1,000,000 copies. In 1999, Sertab dueted with Ricky Martin on his song, Private Emotion. Around this time, her song Lal, from the 1994 album of the same name, was added to the "Soundtrack For A Century" (Sony Music) compilation. Most recently, Ms. Erener represented Turkey in the 2003 Eurovision Finals with her song, Every Way That I Can. She won the contest, beating out the likes of Russia's t.A.T.u. and Belgium's Urban Trad, as well as other good performers/bands. |
