-Constitution of the Economics Club-



Article I:

The purpose of the economics club shall be to: promote interests in economics on campus; prepare club members for graduate studies; establish a working relationship with Alumni; promote positive social activities for the club; and bring prominent speakers relating to the fields of economics and business on campus.

Article II:

Anyone interested in economics may join the economics club.

Article III:

The club shall have any number of economics professors as is its advisor(s).The advisor(s)' duties shall be to: (1) support the club as a primary consultant. This consultive capacity includes fostering relations with the alumni, business community, and graduate schools; and (2) Act as a liaison along with the President) between the club and the administration and faculty.

Article IV:

The club shall have the following officer: President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Secretary, and Inter-Club representative(s).

Article V:

The duties of the officers shall be as follows:
   President:
Responsible for the overall administration of te club. The President shall lead the club in a fashion as to attain the club's goals. The President will also act as the primary liaison between the club and the rest of the school. The president will run all the club meetings
   Vice-President:
The Vice-President will be responsible for assisting the President in any way possible and acting as the President Pro-Tempore in the absence of the president. The vice-president will also work with the treasurer in fundraising efforts
 Treasurer:
The treasurer will be responsible for keeping track of and reporting to the rest of the club all money transactions the club undertakes.The treasurer will be responsible for the club's on-campus account.The treasurer will also be responsible for fundraising.
Secretary:
The secretary will be responsible for recording and reporting the minutes of the club meetings.The secretary will also be responsible for the publicity of all club events, including meetings. The secretary will assist the president in the general administration of the club
Inter-Club Rep:
The Inter-Club Representative's duties will be to attend all Inter-Club meetings. The Inter-Club Rep. will report the minutes of these meetings to club members at Economics Club Meetings.

Article VI:

:Elections of all club officers shall take place at the first meeting and second meeting of each school year. the current president shall call the meeting at a reasonable date within the month of September.
Eligibility:

-President: Must have a senior status (i.e., 90 credits or more--to be verified by the advisor(s)). The president is not elected, rather he or she automatically becomes president after serving the elected position of the vice-president from the previous year.
-If there is no senior available to be president, then a junior (i.e., 60 credits or more--to be verified by the advisor) can fill this position for one school year only by getting elected by a majority vote.If no junior is available, then a sophomore may fill this postion by majority vote for one year only.

Vice President: must have junior status (i.e., 60 credits or more--to be verified by advisor(s)). The vice-president is elected by majority vote. The VP automatically becomes president the year after becoming vice-president.
-If no junior is available to be vice-president, then a sophomore(i.e., 30 credits or more--to be verified by advisor) can fill this position for one year only (cannot automatically become president) by majority vote.

Treasurer: The treasurer can be any class level except Freshman (i.e, must have over 30 credits--to be verified by advisor(s)). Elected by majority vote.

Secretary: The secretary can be any class level except Freshmen (i.e., must have over 30 credits--to be verified by advisor(s)).Elected by majority vote.

Inter-Club Representative:Shall be an apointee of the president and can be any class level.

Election Procedures:
-Each candidate for an elected office must be appointed by someone other than themself.
-The current Secretary, at the first meeting of the school year, will record all nominations and make a ballot of these nominatinos.
-At the next meeting (within a week of the previous one), the Secretary will distribute the ballots for the purposes of voting at that meeting.
-The president will then appoint 2 club members who are not running for a position to count the ballots at that meeting.These appointees will then announce the results of the election.
-If there is a tie in any of the elections, the advisor will then break the tie by voting for one of the candidates.

Article VII:


Meetings of the club shall take place as needed, with the following exceptions:

-There shall be at least 3 meetings per semester (2 of the meetings in the first semester shall take place in September, right after each other for the purposes of elections.)

-There shall be at least one meeting during the January Interim Period.

-One of the spring semester meetings shall take place in the month of April.

Article VIII:

Amendments to this constitution can be proposed by any member of the Economics Club. A proposed amendment must be submitted in writing to the Secretary. The Secretary will then put the amendment on a ballot to be distributed at the next club meeting. The amendment will then be voted upon by the club. The Secretary will then count the ballots at that meeting. If the amendment achieves two thirds of all club members' support, the amendment will then be formally added to the Constitution. After the Constitution has been changed, a new Constitution will then be submitted to the administration by the President.
