Mossend Burnvale, known as 'the Cow-punchers' because of the state of their pitch, arrived in Edinburghs Waverly station on saturday morning and headed straight to Castle Street where they joined the throng, along with some of their local support. They too became members of the Royal Scots 16th battalion. The 'Cow-punchers' were the only club side to truly enlist en-masse! A photograph taken in 1915 while the regiment was stationed at Heriots in Edinburgh shows the following men. Willie Cowan Wounded Bob Boyd Wounded Alex Prentice Severley wounded Willie Ellis Died of wounds David Farquhar Wounded Fred Lewis Killed James Lafferty Wounded Alex Crombie Wounded Murdie Mackay Wounded Jake McKenna Killed Tom Bird Wounded Bob Bird Bob survived the war without mishap. However after an accident in an Addiewell mine he died in Edinburghs Royal Infirmary. The year 1921. |
