Here I will tell your the basics of setting up a free web site, how to make it look nice, and the basics of HTML. Please Read this in order. To make a web site, you need a Host. A host is another computer to put our web site on. Setting up a web site on your computer is a bad idea, because it will slow down your internet connection, and give you many problems. So the first thing we need is a host. Use bravanet.com. They have the best web site hosting on the internet. It is free, easy, and they give you 20MB of storage space. So first click here and set up an account with them. To set up an acount with them just click where it says Join Bravenet After you have an account with bravenet sign up for there free web hosting service. To find there web hosting service go to where it says hosting and domains. Just search there web site, youll find it. They will ask you for a sub-domain, which is http:\\www.your-sub-domain-name.bravehost.com After you have set up an account with bravenet you are ready to make a web site.

You now have a Web Site!!!

Ok, asuming that you already have an account with brvanet, and you have signed up for there web hosting service, You Already Have A Web Site. Just type in www.the-sub-domain-you-picked.bravehost.com Ok, if you have not changed your site at all it will say The owner of this domain has not yet uploaded their web site. Please check back later!

How to edit your Web Site

So from here you have two options, either use there free Web Site Wizard, which is your best option, or you can code your own web site using HTML(Hyper Text Markup Language). If you are a beginer use the web site wizard, which you can find in there hosting and domains section. The web Site Wizard will let your make a kewl looking web site without any HTML knoledge. Although it is best to have some some knoledge of HTML, because you will understand how your web site works a lot better. So atleast follow on to the next session. Once you have a web site, use bravenet's free File Transfer(FTP) Tool to transfer your HTML page from your computer to Bravenet's computer. Please note that the default page that comes upon a web site must be named index.html, so name your homepage index.html.

What is HTML

HTML is the language of WebSites. When you goto a web site all you see is fancy text and pretty pictures, but HTML is what goes on behind the scenes. There is whats called a tag for every image, link, button, color, sound, and so on. In the next session I will explain HTML.

How to make a web site from scratch using HTML

First we need a text editor, so just Click the Start button then click on Run, then type notepad . Ok, in order to nderstand HTML your need to understand the concept of tags. HTML is just a way of formating plain text, and in order to format the text we will need a tag. So to srart off any web page, you need to use the <html> tag and to end the web page we use the </html> So remember this, to start a tag we use <Tag Name> and to end the tag we just put a slash / before it, like </Tag Name>. Another tag that is a must is the <body> tag, this is the body of the HTML Page. To end this tag we simply type </body>. OK, So go to notepad and type the following:

<body>
This is my web page
</body>
</html>

Now go and save it as WebPage.html. Make sure Where it says Save as Type That you select All Files. Now go and open your web page. It should say This is my web page. Pretty lame, hu. Well Ill now show you how to add more tags to your Page.

This is a tag that will center text on the page. Go back to notepad and erase all of the text, then type the following

<body>
<center>
This is my web page
</center>
</body>
</html>

Now the text is in the center of the screen.

Now I will show you how to add a backround color to your page. Go to the tag that says <body> and replace it with

<body bgcolor="red">

You now have a red backroung. Bgcolor stands for backround color.
Here is another kewl HTML tag that will make a link to another web site. type this tag in notepad if you like, just remember to add it between the <body> and </body> Tags. Here it is:

Click here to go to google
</a>

Whatever text you type after the <a href> tag will link to www.google.com. To end the link you typed </a>

I will now show you yet another Tag, the <img> tag which will allow you to display images from either on another web site, or on your own computer. So go back to notepad and add this in the <body>:

<img src="//www.google.com/images/logo.gif">

You now have the google image displayed on your web page. In the <img> tag, the src stands for source. The source can either be a web address to an image, or an image on your computer (ie)"C:\picture.GIF". Note that only GIF, JPE, and JPEG images can be displayed. Depending on your web browser, BMP images can also be displayed.

Here is another nifty HTML tag that will let you play backround music on your site. Just replace "some midi" With the location of an MIDI file. Note that only audio files in an .MID can be played because of their smaill file-Size. Put this code anywhere in the <body> Tag.

<embed src = "Some MIDI file" hidden="true" border="0" width="10" height="10" autostart="true" loop="true">

Below is a list of Tags that you will find usfull. When making a web page use your imagination, combine tags together to get the effect you want. Dont Be confused if this tag looks complicated. Just place it anywhere in the <body> Tag, and replace "MyMidi.mid" with the location of your Midi file. src stands for source. It is used to specify the location of the Midi file. autostart is used if you want it to autostart. loop is used if you want the song to loop. Set these values to True or False acordingly.
<i> this Tag is used to make text appear in italics. Close this tag with </i>. None This text is in italics.
<b> This Tag is used to make text appear bold. Close this Tag with </b>. None This text is bold
<font color = "color"> This tag is used to change the color of the text that follows it. Just replace "color" with something like "red" or "lightgreen". End this tag with </font>. None This text is red
<font size = "some size> This Tag is used to change the size of text. Just replace "some size" with the font size, such as "6". None This font size is 5
<hr> br stands for horizontal line. This will make a line on the page. You could use the size="5" to change the size of the line. Replace 5 with any number. Use width="100%" to change how long you want the line to be. Use color="red" to change the color of the line. Feel free to change any of these values.

<br> br stands for break. This tag will start a new line. None

<marquee> This tag is used to make things on the screen FlyBy. To end this tag use </marquee>. None Flying text
