Eight reasons why you should study the Bible. 1.. It is God's Word. By reading the Bible, we learn more of its divine Author, and more about what He expects of us. 2.. God commands us to read it. "Thou shalt meditate therein day and night" (Josh. 1 : 8 ) (also 2 Tim. 2 :15 and Matt. 4 : 4). 3.. God's Word saves sinners and sanctifies believers. "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Rom. 10 : 13; also Ps:119 : 9-11: Prov. 30 : 5,6; John 15 : 7; 17 : 17, Acts 8 : 4-8; and James 1 : 18.) 4.. It gives us victory over Satan. Christ used the Word ("It is written") to defeat the devil in Mathew : 4. 5.. We need the Scriptures for spiritual growth. Even when he was near death for his faith, Paul asked Timothy to bring him his "parchments" (2 Tlim. 4 : 6-8, 13). 6.. The Bible answers life's most important questions : "Where did I come from?" (Gen.1 : 26,27: Ps. 100 :3) "Why am I here?" (Eccl 12 : 13; Rev. 4 : 11); and "Where am I going?" (Ps.23 : 1-6; John 3 : 16- 18; 14 : 1-4; Rev. 20 : 15). 7.. It is for our lives today. In heaven there will be no temptation ( 1 Cor. 10:13), no sin (1 John 1 :9) no need ( Phil 4 : 19), no sorrow (John 14 : 1-3) and no death (Ps 23 : 4). 8.. "The ultimate proof for our faith is the Bible. Only the God of the Bible gave man a written revelation of Himself that is reliable historically, scientifically, and prophetically - and that transforms lives (John 20 : 31)!
