Power Perfect
Curt Schilling did the unthinkable on July 1st.
He threw a masterful Perfect Game against one of the leagues top
offensive
squads.
New York walked into San Francisco riding a small streak which was
continued
by Schilling's dominating performance. He faced the minimum of 27
batters
as not one player managed to reach first base safely. Schilling struck out 13 batters and was never in trouble the whole
night. He sawed off 4 bats and there was not one hard hit ball for San
Francisco in
the game.
What makes this accomplishment so awesome is that it came against a SF
offence which up until recently was 2nd in the league only to Toronto.
SF boasts the likes of Barry Bonds, Jim Thome, Cal Ripken Jr. and Brian
Jordan, but they could do nothing on this night.
Schilling simply had his stuff rocking, throwing hard on every pitch he
just
didn't back down. He only needed 108 pitches, 82 of which were
strikes. He
was hitting his spots all night and the splitter was mowing batters down
and
was the cause of 11 out of 13 SO's.
Since coming over to New York, Curt has turned around his season and has
helped New York grab the wild card spot and stay with the powerhouse
Toronto
Blue Jays.
Curt also followed up his perfect game performance buy leading the Yanks
to
another win in Seattle going 7 strong innings allowing 7 hits. He
picked up
his 10th win of the season against Seattle.
New York is gearing up for the stretch run by playing their best ball
right
now. Since acquiring Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling they have
climbed the
standings and are now the 3rd best team in the league. Just before
they
acquired the two aces they were 4th in the Eastern Division and below
