Then Kersten was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension thats where the arteries get clamped down on and cuts off the oxygen to her body. Kersten did this several times, at one point her oxygen sats went all the way down to the 20's. She scared me so badly. After about two weeks Kersten came off all of the machines with flying colors and was doing great. Thats when they sent her back to Wilford Hall to work on her feedings. Kersten stayed there for another two weeks. She finally got to go home after that. Kersten came back home to Ft.Hood with us. She was home for about four days when she started turning blue on me and not eating. I had to take her back into the ER one night because she started turning blue and was having problems breathing. Kersten was then diagnosed with RSV, congestive heart failure and respitory distress. The Dr.s told me then that they did not know what they were doing when it came to her. So they sent her back to Wilford Hall, where she stayed for a month hooked up on a breathing machine most of the time. During that month they had to go in and put a tube in Kersten's chest to drain the fluid off of her heart because it was to thick. Kersten finally got better and was able to go home again. We did not get to come back to Ft.Hood, we had to stay at the Fisher House with her. Thats where we had been staying since Kersten was put back into the hospital. We were there for about 2 days when Kersten started choking on me and turned blue. I rushed her back to the pediactric ward ( thats where the Dr. told me to take her if she started doing bad) and told them what was happening. They hooked her up to some oxygen and just watched her for the night. The next day all they did was took an X-ray of her chest, they didn't do not echo gram like they should of. The Dr. said that Kersten's X-ray was the best that he had ever seen on her. That was on a Sat., that night Kersten's oxygen level started dropping so they raised the level of oxygen intake they were givng her. That next morning I woke up to Kersten crying, I changed her diaper and was going to feed her when she started chocking on me again. I called the nurses in there and told them that something was wrong and that they needed to get the Dr. The Dr. came rushing in and looked at Kersten, Kersten's sats. had dropped into the 50's but came back up to the 70's when the Dr. came in. So the Dr. (which was an intern) listened to her and said she was fine and left. A few seconds later Kersten started dropping again and wasn't coming back up. She kept on crying and wouldn't stop. I yelled at the nurses that they needed to get the Dr. back in there. They finally went to go get her, the intern came back in and was holding Kersten, and she wouldn't stop crying so she handed her to me and told me to try to get her to calm down, so they could get her sats back up. I took Kersten into my hands and had her up on my shoulder rocking her when she stopped crying. I layed her back into my arms and thats when I noticed that something was not right so I kept touching her face and calling out her name. Kersten would not respond to me. Thats when I was yelling at the intern that there was something wrong. The intern didn't do anything, untill I yelled at her that Kersten's eyes rolled into the back of her head. Thats when she told me to hand Kersten to her and go get the nurses. |
