A few semesters ago, I took an electronic music class as an elective. In that class, I wrote three songs which would sit on my computer's hard drive for months. As a result, only a few people heard these songs. Thus, I decided it was time to share them to the rest of the world. All of these songs were created with GarageBand. However, I used an M-Audio keyboard to play everything EXCEPT for the drum beats because let's face it - I have no rhythm.
Anyway, enjoy the songs, and if you have any questions, comments, or complaints, don't be afraid to contact me.

Completed Songs "The First Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 6:09 This is the first song I wrote. Basically, I was just experimenting with the program to see what it could do. For the most part, it focuses on the same four-chord sequence. It doesn't really go anywhere after that, but in an attempt to be progressive, I added a little fusion section in the middle. However, but I would probably edit that out if I had the means to do so. One aspect I was pretty happy with was the song's finale. "The Second Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 3:30 My second song is much more structured than the first. It features a beginning, middle, and an end. The jazz section at the end was thrown together at the last minute because I had to make the song at least 3 minutes long for the assignment. Many people tell me that this song sounds like it belongs in a video game. I can't argue with that. I think it would make a great "stage one" theme for any side-scroller (here's looking at you, Sonic). "The Dark Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 4:49 This is my favorite song of the three. It's a bit darker than the first two (hench the name). I love the chord sequence, I love the guitar melody, and I especially love the little piano improvisation in the middle. This song was definitely inspired by my love for progressive rock, although prog-rock tends to be a little more complicated than this. Regardless, I feel that this is my best work so far (even though it's still pretty amatuer when compared to REAL musicians). These are songs which I started, but for various reasons were never able to finish. More of them are less than a minute long. "The Flute Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 0:57 Of all the songs I never finished, I like this one the most. I stopped working on it because I didn't know where to go next. "The Jazz Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 0:51 As the name implies, this a pretty simple song which tries to be jazzy. I like the melody, but I think it would sound better as a techno song. "The Funk Song" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 0:54 This was my pathetic attempt at trying to sound like Herbie Hancock. I like the chord sequence, though. "Afterglow" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 1:02 A rather simple remake of the classic Genesis song. As you can tell, it stops in the middle of the second verse. I stopped working on this because I ran out of time. I also tried to replicate the sound of Steve Hackett's guitar using a flanger effect. "Zelda II Jazzy Castle Theme" Click Here to Listen (click on "download MP3" to download) Length: 1:02 The title says it all. It's not much, but it's a start. I think the piano came out well, but if I had the equipment, I would definitely raise the bass track a little more. |
