NPR interview for All Things Considered, 1998

compiled by Anne Tenaglia

(Maybe Séan?) Well, for us, a recording studio is, you know, it's an extension of what we learned to do playing live. I mean, we did our apprenticeship playing in very rowdy and very loud waterfront bars in St. John's in Halifax since we were, you know, very young teenagers, and, you know, the only way to get out -- to get the audience's attention is to beat them into submission with your music, so we learned the hard way how to sing loud and hard.

(Probably Alan) Yeah, between all of us, I guess, I don't know, I guess there's probably a dozen instruments that we play, you know, between all of us we play guitars and basses and bouzoukis) and mandolins and accordions -- Bob being the most proficient of which, and it's interesting to see what instruments he's brought with him to play, because Bob learns instruments the way the rest of us brush our teeth, you know.”
