Things to Do

This is just a small selection of things I think are worth doing in Glasgow.

Take the underground, you'll rarely take a smaller train and it just goes in a circle so you can't get lost. Not for the claustrophobic!

Wander around the shops, cafes and bars of the westend. In particular, buy a CD in "Fopp". Eat a pizza slice from Little Italy. Have a drink down Ashton Lane.

Go to The Science Museum .If you have kids or ever were a kid yourself this is a must see!! Its got loads of great interactive exhibitions and a huge iMax cinema. Its in a space age silver blob of a building across the river from the giant silver Armadillo of the Scottish exhibition centre (SECC). You can cross a pedestrian bridge from the SECC. Its open everyday 10-6pm.

University of Glasgow. Definitely worth a look! There is a visitor centre but feel free just to wander around. Walk in the main door through to the cloisters and then out the other side where you will get a view over the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (closed til 2006) and the Armadillo and The Science Museum.

The Museum of Modern Art in Royal Exchange Square, just off Buchanan St.

Take an open top bus tour: tour lasts 1hr 20 mins and leaves from George Square in the city centre every 15mins. It’ll pass by all the places I mentioned above and more.

Go shopping! In town head to Buchanan St underground and the Buchanan galleries shopping centre. Its got H&M, Gap and John Lewis and everything else you could need.

Ikea (by popular demand). By car: 5 miles from Glasgow City Centre on the road towards Glasgow airport. Take Junction 25A off the M8 westbound, or Junction 26 heading east. Open 10am til 10pm Mon to Friday. Saturday and Sunday: 10am-7pm. Remember Monday is not a bank holiday in Scotland this would be a great day to go.
