PARTY: Not directly affiliated with any party, but a libertarian by nature. As there are right wingers and Republicans, left wingers and Democrats, there are libertarians and Libertarians. While there may be a good deal of overlap, they are not synonymous.
ABORTION - Pro-Choice
A completely unnecessary procedure. Well, mostly.
My initial view is that people should go out and buy a freakin' condom!! Protect yourself from STDs and pregnancy at the same time! Given the range of birth control available, there are very few times when abortion should become an issue. Rape, incest, birth control failure, and risk to the mother's life are, to me, clearly acceptable circumstances for abortion. However, even with the chance of birth control failure, there is a risk that people must accept. I strongly feel that personal responsibility should dictate that the .02% risk of pregnancy from condom failure is something that should be accounted for in the decision to have sex. If you do not feel strongly enough to raise a child, do not go through the act of creating one.
If you follow a religion that (for some obscure and irrational reason) does not allow birth control, then the issue should not even enter your life. On the front edge of the issue, your religion would not want you to have a sexual relationship with someone if you were not in a situation to bear (and raise) the child. Whether you are unwed, not truly in love, or married, but the timing was wrong, whatever! You should know better. On the trailing edge of the issue, those same religions denounce abortion, so if you do become pregnant you would not want to have an abortion.
Now, there are people that become pregnant because of rape, incest, etc., and need an abortion, but do not want one because of their religion. Well, those people must bear the burden of that choice themselves. Likewise, their religion most likely states that they must bear the responsibility of that life themselves. Having a child and putting him in the state's care is a cruelty unto itself.
Partial birth abortions are, depending upon the definition, just a travesty. If you let a pregnancy proceed to this stage, then you missed your window of decision making opportunity. The onus is now on you to raise a child, and I wish the child luck, for if you can not make a decision of that importance in six months, you will not likely be a good parent.
That all being said, I believe in abortion's legal status. In the end, despite all logic that says voluntary abortion should be unnecessary, there are people that are too stupid to take precautions. I do not want those people to breed their stupidity into the next generation, and if they want to terminate a pregnancy, then so be it. Besides, the life of a child that is a ward of the state, raised in a situation where there is not enough proper care of love is possibly worse than no life at all.
