Rhythmic Nationals Results

Two gymnasts from CSS-CSM Timisoara competed at the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, held in Bucharest from June 8-9. Claudia Rusu and Andreea Goguta managed to win more than half the medals in the entire event.

”Out of the 15 possible medals, our gymnasts won 10. If Raluca Sufan wouldn’t have had health problems, due to which she could not be in Bucharest, we would have won everything -just like last year,” said Monica Furtz, one of the national team coaches. The national rhythmic team is composed exclusively of gymnasts from Timisoara, “We’ve clearly been dominating Romanian gymnastics and I don’t see who could threaten our position in the future,” added Ms. Furtz. Claudia Rusu won the all-around competition, and swept the apparatus finals –rope, clubs, hoop and ball, while Andreea Goguta claimed silver in the all-around competition, won two silver medals (ball and hoop finals), and two bronze medals with rope and clubs.

”This competition was a good test to see if our gymnasts are prepared to compete. The true competition starts with the international meets in Cyprus and Russia, where we will be sending a team,” concluded coach Furtz. Besides Sufan, Rusu, and Goguta, the national team consists of Romina Lupei and Roxana Toma, coached by Mioara Oanca and choreographer Margareta Dumitru. The senior team is preparing for the World Championships, which will take place in November in Spain.

The team event was actually won by CSS Iasi, whose team was without Carmen and Monica Afilipoaie, both of them recently retired. LPS- Baia Mare, whose team is coached by Carmen Coca and Ileana Pantea finished second, ahead of Oradea’s team. “This is the second year in a row we are ranked second in the country. We should note Alexandra Somcutean actually retired last year, but changed her mind this year, and alongside Roxana Corzan and Mihaela Hale helped the team to a silver medal,” said Baia Mare’s coach, Carmen Coca. The next major competition in Romania will be the Junior National Championships, scheduled for September 13-15.
