More Reactions to Marinescu’s Book

American TV channel HBO decided to do a feature story on Alexandra on their Real Sports show. The American producers interviewed Alexandra and the gymanst will probably be invited to HBO’s New York studio for the show.

Currently living in Deva, Alexandra Marinescu said she’s disappointed to see the campaign that started against her. “I really don’t understand. I just talked about my life and what I went through. I did not mention my teammates, especially because I wanted to avoid implicating them. That’s why I don’t understand all this attention from people who have nothing to do with my story or what I’m doing. If the truth bothers them, or if they feel singled out because they’re hiding the truth, that’s their problem, “ added Alexandra.

Besides her accusations directed at the national team coaches, Alexandra Marinescu also mentioned RGF General Secretary Adrian Stoica, whom she accused of telling Nadia Comãneci that she doesn’t need to go to the US to get medical treatment. Mr. Stoica agreed to an interview with Gazeta Sporturilor about this situation.

GS: Mr. Stoica, could you comment on Alexandra Marinescu’s accusation, according to which, you were opposed to her coming to the US for medical treatment after Nadia told you she could help her?
AS: I can only tell you one thing. Ask Nadia. If she tells you things stand the way Alexandra presented them, there is nothing left to say. I did everything I could to help this girl get all the support she needed. But it looks like the old Romanian saying about stretching out a helping hand, only to get your behind kicked as a reward holds true.
GS: What’s your take on Alexandra’s comments about the training regime at Deva?
AS: This girl is definitely being manipulated. She has someone else’s financial interest behind her, someone who wants to sell the book through this campaign. But nothing surprises me in today’s society. Anything’s possible over here.

GS: You don’t intend to sue her after the statements she made about you?
AS: I’ll never do that when it comes to her. I’ll repeat what I said, Alexandra was nothing but a tool in this story. However if -while reading the book- I’ll find any statements that do not belong to Alexandra and are strictly directed at me, things could totally change.
GS: On the German site Gymworld, there have been some strong reactions following all the media attention. What do you think about this?
AS: Publishing this book won’t affect certain people, as one might think. The effects will show in time, and the structure of Romanian gymnastics will be first to suffer the consequences.
