Being unable to remember the source of a familiar smell from childhood

Why this is an error:

I could not remember the source of the smell.

Processes:

Memory
The reason for this error (similar to a source monitoring error, but different because I could not determine any source for this memory) is that the scent is one I encountered as a young child. Quite possibly my hippocampus was not completely developed when my amygdala stored the emotion attached to this smell. Consequently, I can remember the feelings associated with the smell but not its exact source.

Perception
My inability to recall the source of the smell is also caused by humans' difficulty in attaching names to odors.
