Ginger's "Dear Jane" Quilts

I am a wife of a career Army officer and have had the great opportunity to live all over the world.
I am blessed to be the mother of three wonderful children who continually teach me the important
things in life. I am also an avid quilter. This page will be devoted to the making of my "Dear Jane"
quilt. I want to thank all the members of the Dear Jane list for their constant support, advise, and

The Dear Jane quilt is a sampler of two hundred and twenty five patterns from a quilt made by
Jane Stickle, dated 1863. The blocks and triangles were drafted and published by Brenda
Manges Papadakis in her book "Dear Jane - The Two-Hundred Twenty-Five Patterns from the
1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt". The quilt blocks are approximately 4.5 inches square, and the top is
surrounded by pieced triangles. I first began interested in this quilt with the purchase of the book
while living in Korea in 1996. I did not start the construction of the quilt until I discovered the
Dear Jane list on the internet and received the encouragement to begin such a large project. I am
currently making two quilts at the same time. In the first I am attempting to match Jane's original
fabrics with the many reproduction fabrics available on the market today. I hope to use each
fabric only one time. In the second I am using only three fabrics; a Hoffman batik in oranges and
pinks, a purple crackle, and a dark purple with a small black dots for the sashing. As blocks are
completed for each quilt I will post them to this site. Anyone interested in the history of this quilt,
the book, or the list should contact the Dear Jane web site at
