Construction on Okinawa
(Click on thumbnails for picture enlargements)
My father, Robert Cragin Gibson, arrived on Okinawa sometime in September, 1947. From that time onwards, he worked for various construction companies (Atkinson Jones Construction Company, Post and Staff Engineers, Tomanaha Const. Co, E. V. Lane Corp, and C. E. Harris Builders) operating heavy equipment and supervising in various construction activities including constructing water plants, laying down underground utility lines, building, replacing and repairing piers, installing steel pipes into the bottom of Chimu Wan Bay, etc, etc. Being an amatuer photographer, he took the above photos as well as many other similar ones. Many of the pictures were lost in transit, but I have a few remaining ones and some negatives.
Can anyone "place" any of these pictures? Is there a better place for these pictures to call home? Send me your suggestions
