Csaba in the 1990's

1994, an aging Csaba Elthes still burns with a passion for fencing and convinces an at first reluctant 42 yr. old Peter Westbrook to start training to make the 1995 Pan American Games to be held in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Westbrook starts daily training w/Elthes. The USFA despite Westbrook's strong showings in the 3 (of 5) qualifier's discourages Westbrook because of his age. An unrelenting Elthes never wavers in his belief that Westbrook can and should do it. Westbrook makes his decision to treat this as a challenge and forges ahead. Westbrook makes the team and has the great honor of being elected by the US team to carry the US flag in the opening ceremony. Incredibly Westbrook wins the Gold medal, his 6th Pan American Games. Maestro Csaba urges Westbrook to go for his 6th Olympics (to be held in Atlanta, GA in 1996).

1995, The great maestro, Csaba Elthes dies of a massive stroke in the fall of 1995 while visiting his daughter in Budapest. He was buried there, but his wife Baba she continues to reside in New York as of 2003.
