Interview with Daniel Quiggle
Done by Gabe Straight Edge for the Girard sxe crew online zine
GSXE: Well, after long thought on what band to talk to about, I've
decided not to really ask you about your bands much at all. Instead let's
get to know the real Dan Quiggle. From what I understand your in collage
studying to be a history teacher, how is that going?
Dan: ITS GOING GREAT! I AM GRADUATING IN MAY WITH MY B.A IN HISTORY AND I
AM ATTENDING EDINBORO THE FALL TO GET MY TEACHING DEGREE. ONE MORE YEAR AND
I WILL FINALLY BE FINSIHED UNLESS I DECIDE TO GET MY MASTERS IN HISTORY.
GSXE: Do you think you will end up teachin at a school in the general
Erie area, or do you think you may end up just moving to whereever there
is a job?
Dan:I WOULD LIKE TO TEACH AROUND IN THE AREA BECAUSE THIS IS
WHERE ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIVE, BUT UNFORTUATLY THERE IS NOT A GREAT
CALLING OR NEED FOR TEACHERS IN THE AREA SO FINDING A JOB IS DIFFICULT. IF
I MOVE, IT WILL DEFINATLY BE TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. I KNOW I COULD GET A
JOB THERE PRETTY EASY AND I HAVE A TON OF FRIENDS OUT THERE.
GSXE: IBC Root Beer and Cream Soda has been a big part of my diet and
lifestyle since I was a wee-little boy. On the one dodgin' bullets album
cover it says they "proudly support IBC Root Beer", and it is even
mentioned in a DB song..."IBC's, tattoos, and BBQ's"...So, what are your
feelings on IBC?
Dan: I LOVE THE STUFF! ITS GREAT. ME AND JOEL HAVE TWO CASES JUST CHILLIN
IN OUR BEDROOM.
GSXE: While were on the subject, what are your feelings on tattoos?
Dan: WELL, THEY ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE. SOME PEOPLE LIKE THEM AND SOME PEOPLE
DON'T. ITS A PERSONAL CHOICE I GUESS. I PERSONALLY LIKE TATTOOS MYSELF.
GSXE: And of course, what are your feelings on BBQ's?
Dan: BBQ'S ARE AWESOME, THEY ARE A GREAT CHANCE TO GET TOGETHER WITH
FRIENDS AND JUST CHILL OUT AND EAT SOME FOOD. IT SUCKS THAT OUR WEATHER IS
SO BAD AND WE ONLY HAVE A 3 MONTH WINDOW WHERE THE WEATHER IS GOOD ENOUGH
TO HAVE BBQ'S. OUT IN CALIFORNIA THEY HAVE BBQ'S ALL THE TIME, THEY DON'T
EVEN NEED A REASON AND THE WEATHER IS ALWAYS AWESOME.
GSXE: Now, I wasn't going to ask anything about your bands, but I just
have to know, how come you guys (xDisciplex ad) never play anything from
Lantern (except baregrounds cause it was on imitation of love) at shows?
Dan: BECAUSE THOSE SONGS ARE GOING ON 7 YEARS OLD NOW. IT SUCKS WHEN YOU
HAVE LIKE 30+ SONGS BECAUSE YOU ONLY PLAY 10 AT A SHOW SO YOU HAVE TO
CHOOSE YOUR FAVORITE ONES AND ALL THE REST GET LEFT OUT. IF WE EVER DECIDE
TO CALL IS QUITS WE WILL PLAY A LAST SHOW AND WE WILL PLAY SOME OF THOSE
OLDIES THEN.
GSXE: Speaking of shows I was just reminded of the last xDisciplex AD
show in Erie. It looked like you took a pretty big fall on your knee. How
is that doing? I said a prayer for you when I saw it happen, it sure
looked like it was painful.
Dan: MY KNEE IS JUST FINE NOW, I WAS JUST RUNNING AROUND UP THERE LIKE AN
IDIOT AND I THINK THE CARPET ON THE STAGE GOT ALL BUNCHED UP AND I JUST
TOOK A SPILL. I GUESS I AM LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T BREAK MY LEG OR ANYTHING
WORSE!
GSXE: Here is yet another band related question I wasn't going to
ask...How come Joel doesn't sing very much in Anchor?
Dan: WELL, WHEN WE STARTED OUT WE PLAYED MORE OLD SCHOOL HXC AND WE HAD
SPOTS WERE WE COULD HAVE A SECOND VOCALIST. OUR NEWER STUFF IS MORE PUNK
AND POST HXC AND THERE IS NOT AS MANY OPPORTUNITYS FOR SOLO PARTS. PLUS
JOEL IS SUPER BUSY AND SOMETIMES HE CAN'T TRAVEL WITH US ALL THE TIME. JOEL
STILL SINGS MOST OF THE BACKUPS IN OUR NEW STUFF.
GSXE: Here is another band related question I wans't going to ask...How
would you compare xDisciplex AD now, to disciple from awhile back with
Brian Oborski and Joe Vogel? What things are better or worse? What are
your general thoughts on that?
Dan: WELL, ITS HARD TO COMPARE. NOT ALOT HAS CHANGED REALLY. WE NEVER
REALLY REPLACED EITHER OF THEM IN THE BAND. NEIL HARTMAN WHO WAS PRETTY
MUCH IN THE BAND BEFORE ALWAYS FILLING IN JUST JOINED THE BAND MORE
PERMANTLY SO THE TRANSITION WAS SMOOTH WHEN BRIAN RETIRED. THEN WHEN JR
LEFT WE JUST STAYED AS A FOUR PIECE. WHNE WE TOURED LAST SUMMER WITH NIV
AND THE DEAL WE HAD OUR FRIEND JOE NOLAN FILLED IN ON BASS FOR US FOR THE
TOUR SINCE HE IS ONE OF OUR BEST FRIENDS. THEN OUR FRIEND SEAN SUNDY HAS
BEEN FILLING IN FOR US OFR THE LAST COUPLE SHOWS WE DID.
GSXE: Well, to wrap things up I told a few of my friends I was going to
interview you, and asked if they had any Q's for you. So here they are:
Rob asks: Can I be your roadie? IF WE EVER GO ON THE ROAD AGAIN, WE HAVE A
ROAD CREW ALREADY ASSEMBLED, SORRY!
Emily asks: How do you have time to be in all those bands and still
conquer collage? I WOULDN'T SAY I CONQUERED COLLEGE REALLY. MY GRADES COULD
HAVE BEEN ALOT BETTER BUT OH WELL. I JUST LOVE MUSIC AND ITS EASY TO FIND
TIME FOR THINGS THAT YOU LOVE.
xAaronx asks: Do you have any copies of the original Lantern CD for 10
bux? SORRY, NO. I MIGHT HAVE ONE, BUT ITS ALREADY PROMISED TO SOMEONE.
GSXE: Well I kept it short because I know your a very busy man. I just
want to say thank you very much for doing this. And sorry if it seemed
kind of wierd, I wanted it to be a bit differant than the usual
interview. Maybe this summer when your not in school and if your not on
tour I can do a more "in-depth" interview with you. Have a great day man,
good luck with school and God Bless. Any last words?
Dan: THANKS FOR THE
INTERVIEW GABE! AND THANKS FOR THE BONUS QUESTIONS BY EMILY, AARON, AND
ROB.
