Ok, I have always felt very strongly about the entire drug issue. Back in the day when all of my friends were experimenting with cigarettes, alcohol, and other drugs I was sitting back and saying "why?" (This was back in grade school, maybe junior high) I continued to question what they did throughout high school and never really found a good answer... Are there truly any benefits to smoking, drinking, and doing drugs? I always came up with the answer "no". I couldn't see any true benefits to doing these things, there may be some temporary perceived benefits, but in the long-run these activities just end up harming people (I saw this happen to some of my friends and people I cared about). When I was 15, a person that I loved a lot and cared about more than words had told me about her experiences with drugs and where they gotten her (she had worked for a major drug dealer on the West Coast for a few years)and they showed me how important it was to stay clean. These sto! ries combined with the fact that I knew if I had ever chosen to do drugs, that I would totally let her down and never trust me again (added to my already strong beliefs) were the major factors that contributed to me becoming straight edge. I discovered straight edge when I was probably in about 9th grade and when I found out what it stood for I realized that I was a part of this group. Ever since then I have just always considered myself to be straight edge because I had always chosen to "keep my blood clean" of all of those things. So, to this day I've never broken this commitment to stay away from these harmful activities, and I never plan on it. Even in college, I have found many benefits to being straight edge-- when everyone else is out getting wasted and losing brain cells, dignity, and much else without recollection, I can be having fun and actually remember what I did-- I also have an easier task when it comes to excelling in school (my brain's not fried). Now tha! t I look back, I'm so glad that I decided this path because I c! an see how much it has benefited my life. I recommend straight edge to anyone and everyone-- but if you're not willing to make a serious commitment, then think twice before you decide to become straight edge. Keep your body clean, and live with no regrets! Straight Edge for life!
