So with the big Oxford House of Refuge, ghost hunt just around the corner, the girls of the KWPRS decided to head out for an evening of Ghost Hunting boot camp.  Boot Camp you ask...for ghost hunters? Well knowing that the Oxford House will be a bigger and more complicated ghost hunt, we decided that a night of homing our skills probably wouldn't hurt. So we headed off to our beloved Woodlan Cemetery for some KWPRS ghost hunting drills. But this night wasnt going to be the usual boring group hunt of Woodland Cemetery, no...we decided that tonight we were each going to trudge through the haunted grounds alone!
Woodland Cemetery has 4 main paths that travel parallel to each other most of the way through the large cemetery. While traveling down these main paths there are many side sections that break off and lead you to different areas of the grounds eg. Acacia Garden...you with me so far? Members were to take a walkie-talkie, their paranormal investigations tool of choice and head down their specific path to conduct an exploration alone. That was our mission...and did we choose to accept it? You bet your ass we sure did!
The night began with a quick trip to the local Zehrs, to get the necessary ghost hunting provisions...food! Once there, we also stoped by the Zehrs meat department to say "Hello" to fellow ghost huntress, missing in paranormal investigation action, Nicole. After snappin a quick picture and taunting her with "You have to work and I dont", we informed her of some exiting new KWPRS news, which yes, you will ALL know soon enough. Once Nicole was finished screaming and jumping up and down, we headed off to The Woodland Cemetery to begin our first installment of KWPRS boot camp!
Dana and Corrie...sisterly love..
No, Woodland Cemetery is not new and uncharted territory to us here at the KWPRS, it's a place that we like to call our stomping ground. Woodland Cemetery was the first location we investigated back in the fall of 2001. Woodland is home to some of the oldest gravesites in Kitchener-Waterloo, and is immersed with some of the strangest energies we have ever felt. There are sections of this cemetery that have the ability to make you burst into laughter and others that are so extremely frightening that nothing for the life of you could get you to move ahead. We here at the KWPRS have visited Woodland many times, we know which areas are hot spots and which aren't, so tonight we arrived and headed off into our own sections without the comfort of each other!
Once at the main gate we suited up and switched on our walkie-talkies and with a quick chant for protection we split up to travel our seperate roads. Jen took to the left-side of the cemetery, the area that has been known to the burying ground of a group of Nazis. Dana advanced down the center, tackling the infamous Acacia Gardens. And Corrie crossed off to the right hand side, were the newly buried graves are located, and right into her first obstacle, a freshly dug grave. But Corrie is a paranormal investigatior by heart so she found her courage and began snapping pictures. Right away she bagan to capture our first paranormal proof of the night, spirit ecto.
All the while Jen was sweeping the right side of the Cemetery, the area that is rumored to be the burying ground for people who were Nazis and home to some seriously creepy energies. She ran head on into her first hurdle of the night, when she bagan hearing strange noises and Voices. Using her audio recorder and intuition she trudged on finding her bravery and keeping calm to record the team some EVP's, which will be up very soon! Leaving Dana the team sensitive in the Acacia Garden, the belly of the Cemetery. Dana's first task was to walk the long pathway down the center of the graveyard to the entrance of the Acacia. The Gardens are encompassed by massive pine trees that help to form what resembles a labyrinth around the large circle of headstones. Once inside the sphere it is very dark and you feel quite cut off from the rest of the cemetery. That's when Dana's walkie-talkie began picking up the quiet voice of  what sounded like a child, who repeated the phrase "who are you" 3 or 4 times. Now we know that walkie-talkies have the ability to pick up other frequencies but it seemed odd that a child would be using his or her radio walkie-talkie at 1 o'clock in the morning, and repeating the same sentence over and over again. Dana pulled out her dousing rods and they began to spin, finally coming to a cross, that's when the windbegan to  picked up.
Dana then used her radio to contact the other girls, she asked the others if they noticed that the temperature felt as if it had just dropped about 10'C and the girls agreed. The wind had began to blow harder and we decided that we probably wouldn't be much use to the ghost hunting world if we froze to death in Woodland Cemetery so we headed back home.
We all really enjoyed the first installment of KWPRS boot camp, ghost-hunting separate really gave us all the chance to reflect and use our intuition a bit more. Although we definitely do not recomment heading out to your local Cemetey to do a bit of ghost hunting all by your lonesome! Our response from the hunt was great everyone really enjoyed it. So Im sure that there will be many chapters of KWPRS boot camp to come!
